Sad to hear. At one point I realized (due to his name) that three non-fiction books I read in a row all referenced his studies, despite spanning entirely different subjects. Clearly an influence on many authors and researchers.

For the folks incredulous at this number, senior staff level (IC7) and higher at top tier tech companies can get there, especially with stock appreciation. Stock/RSUs would comprise the majority of the compensation.

This is a fantastic article and I have shared it with many, many engineers in the past. It's one of those totally counterintuitive things about career growth. It's all about accumulating scope as one grows into a senior-level role

On top of the high price, you don't get the Oculus Store either. I think you can theoretically sideload the consumer apps, but it won't be a straightforward process from what I understand.

My sole experience in Big Tech consists of Facebook and the post more or less matches what I saw there. It seems to me, though, that the author views "no process" from a very positive lens, with no discussion of negatives. Like ho

That's a hell of a stretch there. Anything in the tax code can be a loophole if viewed from the right angle. I don't see anything unethical in taking advantage of a LAW that trades early risk-taking for some later tax break, for t

This is just three years before Jennifer Ringley created the concept of a "camgirl" with JenniCam. The information superhighway, as it were, really was the wild, wild West in those days.

It has nothing to do with "deserving" it. Tax breaks exist, generally, to create specific incentives. In this case, the incentive is to promote small businesses by parking cash with them at an early stage, despite the added risk.
