I have a hard time believing a business can't simply open a second checking account somewhere, assuming they have the cash and don't need any extra features. Maybe if it was a very early company. VCs and advisors failed their comp

Exactly! My personal finances are nowhere near as sophisticated as even a small start-up, but I make sure I have multiple sources of cash and credit just in case I lose access to one for whatever reason temporary or permanent (bank failure,

Whether or not depositors get their money back, or even have access to it in a timely manner, I think one lesson for me is how important it is to have a contingency plan for banking. It doesn't cost much to have a few month's (or

Timing is exactly the challenge! The share price of $SIVB actually climbed pretty significantly since the prediction back in January before collapsing this week. You don't need to look too hard to see examples of share prices doing wei

I doubt it. A huge part of a coding interview is based around communication and general knowledge that you can demonstrate to the interviewer. If colleges are unable to detect AI-written essays then they have bigger problems. LLMs have no

Nope! ChatGPT doesn't know how to do anything except put words together that seem plausible. It is pretty good at some types of things no doubt, but let's not get carried away by an LLM!

Interestingly I feel the same way about coding interviews, which HN seems to hate. I feel like studying and doing well on my coding interviews helped me get into top companies that otherwise would probably pass over my decidedly non-elite r

I don’t work at Microsoft, but I’m assuming it works very similarly to other big tech companies I’ve been at. Good news is that at a big company promotions are a well worn path! Tell your manager that you’re interested in a promo and have

The home office stipend was cut, but there is still a home internet credit of $900/year. Yeah sure there are plenty of issues but none of those are related to remote. It is much easier to find a remote role at Meta vs other big tech c

One unfortunate side effect of referral bonuses is that they don't really help increase diversity since employees are most likely to refer friends from their existing social circles. I didn't realize that at first!

Meta and Amazon are the most remote friendly. When I interviewed at Google it was a hassle to match with a team that was hiring remote. Anywhere in the US is very good compensation. London is a different story.
