You'll potentially have a lot of people planning on retiring not being able to retire, for one. You'll have people who are forced to hold onto their homes because they will be underwater.

Not everyone who used it cargo-culted but certainly some did.

People love to cargo-cult. It's wild. It was okay but I'm happier with ChatGPT for one-off things I don't know how to do "give me a sql query that does this obscure thing" etc..

Sure. HTML doesn't impact as much as the app as SQL does. Missing records in a SQL query can have a huge impact on many systems. A missing table row (HTML) doesn't usually impact that much.

I like "throw away your first solution" or "be prepared to throw away your first solution." And the difference between a senior dev and a junior dev is knowing when to stop.

My advice, you have three options: 1) Go above your manager's head and force a resolution. This is risky even in the best situation (let's say you have a relationship with the owner of the company, even then it is risky - they hav

Yes, absolutely. Or they insist on only integration tests that take hours to run and are horrible to maintain.

I work at a company that has a fucking nightmare of a C# project. It's total hell to work on. I don't think the language makes much of a difference.

It's true. I use ORMs in my projects.

I'll have to check that out. Languages I use don't have that type of tooling that I'm aware of :) Have used Haskell before, but... far from extensively!

Being fair, there really aren't tools built to test SQL queries like there are to test other code.

Yeah, if your devs are loading entire tables into code and using filter on them ... I haven't personally seen that, but oh god. Not that it isn't valid in some cases. It is. If for example, you're using all of the table in yo

ORMs have other selling points. Primarily, it looks like code and works with tooling designed for code. So changing a column name or type, for example, is pretty easy to refactor, which may not be true for SQL queries and may take significa

I don't think this is a good example of where ORMs fall apart. If you have devs doing the first thing you have issues. ORMs fall apart when they either do unexpected things, or "expected" but often terrible things, like lazy-

It's also beyond just the stores - up to 80% of items in grocery stores are made by just a few companies.

Depends on what you're logging. If you're logging everything it can add up.

Well, "easily" - I am not totally sure, but it can happen without much trouble. I guess depends on your definition of easily.

It isn't a morality issue. It's an issue of our system of controls: likely we should implement price control during times of high inflation. Imagine if the following happened during covid: - used car prices were locked/limite

I break the law on my bike a lot more than my car, but I don't ride an ebike on the sidewalk where pedestrians are. That's what I'm talking about. I run stop signs on my bike all the time (like at 4 way stops) - I don't
