If you separate this conversation from reality and strip any sort of relevant context, then yes, population and pollution are orthogonal concerns. What you're saying is "if human existence didn't cause externalities, then a g

I am also interested in moving to Munich at some point, could you tell me more about the state of the biking infrastructure? Is it practical to use cycling as your main transportation method around the city? What about recreationally - i.e.

Apologies for being blunt, but you are heavily strawmanning. I don't think anyone said that it is "the only environmental problem" anywhere in this thread, and especially not me. I did not say it is the only environmental pro

Apologies, but I am not sure about what you're trying to say. Yes, pollution is not evenly distributed across countries and populations, but that does not mean that the original idea is wrong. The truth is that overpopulation is a huge

Not one thing you said is a reasonable concern. Rental cars must be picked up during business hours (which is 24/7 in a lot of places), but can be dropped off at any time. Any decent agency will provide proper tires for your climate. B

Well, there are two reasons, I believe. One is the fact that the longer in advance you buy it, the cheaper it is and the second is that peak vs. off-peak times matter a lot. If you buy one month in advance and at non-peak times (e.g. 12:00

Not sure this applies to everywhere, but I can talk about Romania (Eastern Europe) vs. Western Europe. Romania has some of the best Internet in the world; as far as I recall, you can get 1Gbps for like 10-15 dollars in most non-rural areas.

Sort of off-topic, but I just wanted to point out the environmental impact that these ships have one the planet. According to Wikipedia, "maritime transport accounts for 3.5 to 4 percent of all climate change emissions, primarily carbo

Depends how you define 'need', how much you can afford to spend and what your usual routes are, so I agree that generalizing is not that great, but that goes both ways.

I do find that a bit weird myself, but I'm happy to see that there are countries that still value privacy. Towards the other side of the spectrum, you get countries like the UK where you are being filmed pretty much everywhere you go,

I really don't get this type of defeatist thinking, and I see this in basically every climate discussion. It's pretty simple - it either happens (along with renewables etc.) or we face the consequences. It either happens willingly

For Java projects, the most common one tends to be Flyway, in my experience. There's also Liquibase that I've heard of, but never used. Flyway is okay in my experience. Can't complain about it, but I can't praise it eith

I was surprised too, but then I remembered that we live in a bubble. Privacy is only a highly-emphasized topic in niche places like HN. Most people couldn't care less about this, despite knowing the high level rhetoric.

Veganism is seen as a label, but it's actually not a binary trait, it's a spectrum at the very least. What I mean is that there are vegans who would never eat meat under any circumstances, ever. There are vegans who would eat eggs
