Physics is super old but for most of that time we didn't have the intellectual tools to do physics well. Once maths, engineering and the scientific method developed enough, the experiments were relatively easy to do (as the OP pointed

Another example would be plate tectonics --- incredibly important, only settled in the 1960s, but no Nobel prize awarded because there isn't a Nobel prize for geology/earth sciences.

I think the Nobel prize data can be explained quite simply: The Nobel prizes are only awarded in fields that were established early in the 20th century. Because they are long-established, we are seeing diminishing returns as the low-hanging

"Only require JIT compilation if they're launched on a non-x86 machine" is a heck of a caveat. The x86-64 instruction set is not a good portable IR. Some well-known problems: * It's much more irregular to decode than oth

Unfortunate that the article ignores how Christians are told to prefer giving anonymously because that sends a signal to God that you're not doing it to improve your reputation with people (Matthew 6:3). Seems likely this influences

I thought I had read a lot about Tolkien and Lewis but I have never before read the theory that they consciously conspired together to inculcate generations of writers to rebuild English literature around medieval fantasy. Ingenious! Dismis

Right now we're focused on selling the product we have. The infrastructure we built to support JS would extend pretty easily to Python. Extending to Java would be a lot more work. No plans to do either anytime soon (unless someone want

You could have a playback mode where you use real focus and caret. E.g. DOMRec could easily be modified to do this in fullscreen mode. After that it might Just Work since the ARIA roles are in the DOM. Indeed it would be very cool!

DOMRec doesn't handle dynamic changes to rules in CSS stylesheets because our app doesn't do that. If we needed to do that, I'd try wrapping the CSSOM API prototypes. (Of course DOMRec does handle changes to 'style'

MutationObserver is much more efficient than mutation events because it can group events into batches, vastly reducing the number of event handler callbacks when you're observing whole documents.

Yes, it would be very easy to do in CI, just one shell command. We don't, because we don't need to update the demo movies often so it saves cycle time to trigger updates manually when required.

Those look cool. rrweb is about two years old, same as DOMRec, TimeCat started in February this year, so it's not surprising we didn't find them :-).

rrweb looks cool. It started at around the same time as we first built DOMRec. rrweb looks much more polished though!

Sure, you can embed Adobe's Flash or a JVM in a media player. But what I said is still true in terms of implementation effort.

A Flash player is a lot more like a Java virtual machine + libraries or a Web browser than it is like a video codec. I have not heard that rumor about Shumway. As a former Mozilla distinguished engineer, I think I would have. Thanks for poi

Your three sources in https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=25119518 do not seem to mention compliance at all. They are all arguing that the restrictions requested by the Swedish government were too weak, which I absolutely

That's fair, but the distinction does get blurry. In Auckland over time we have had: 1. Government suggesting that wearing masks on public transport would be good 2. Government asking everyone to wear masks on public transport 3. Gover

If you want to make the argument that making restrictions illegal on paper decreases compliance, that's fine, though I very much doubt it. Comparisons across very different countries won't make the case. But when people talk about
