I wonder how many of those MIQ bookings are citizens returning home from non-essential overseas trips. I think we should probably be making those trips a lot harder/more expensive and using those MIQ slots for more compassionate or bus

I have personally met one big-league tech executive who got a NZ company to declare him an "essential worker" and migrated his family to NZ this year using that. I'm sure there are others. I'm not sure if that would work

That's a good question. However, as a NZer, I think it's a pretty good deal for NZ to admit someone like Hölzle even if he only stays here for a year. For sure he will contribute to the economy by spending significant amounts (we

Rust can prevent use-after-free bugs and data races, which is very useful for the kernel.

Even at a pure non-profit there is a significant temptation for the staff to grant themselves benefits at the expense of the mission.

It's actually the other way around. The nonprofit owns the for-profit.

You can get rr in many ways: distro packages, Github release downloads, cloning the repo and building it yourself. It's difficult to track all that. Also it matters how much people use rr. If a lot of people download it, use it once

Lots of people do complain about Firefox telemetry.

So you keep track of critical CVEs for the entire stack of all software you use, and make quick and informed decisions about which components really do need to be updated immediately?

I wish we could add telemetry to the rr debugger without risking this sort of blowback. We have no idea how many people are using rr, and how much, so when we talk to hardware vendors and other groups we depend on, we have no leverage. This

People do complain about Firefox crash reporting, updates and telemetry. However, those have been in Firefox for years. What's happening here is change which always makes people extra-angry.

Personally I just have layers.acceleration.force-enabled: true and that's enough to get me fast 4K WebGL. WebRender and Wayland dmabuf seem to turn on automatically. Intel 915, Fedora 34, dual 4K monitors, distro Firefox 89.

Using external components is pretty hard. The interfaces between them are pretty complicated and abstraction layers are expensive. There are also different policies in different browsers, e.g. Firefox is much more into using Rust than Chrom

I agree that static or dynamic analysis of the implementation or users of the API would let you do some interesting things here. But that is not easy and not the OP's point. The OP's point was that all you need to do is parse the

I don't know anything about Ada95's FFI but it can't magically answer the questions I posed. Either it requires extra information not in the prototypes, or it makes assumptions about the C code that won't always be true

Browser vendors can carry small patches against Chromium but significant changes are very costly to carry long-term as the code changes under you. Furthermore, Google controls how heavy that burden is for you. In practice browser vendors wh

Changing a variable and resuming execution isn't the hard part. The hard part is what happens when the resumed execution wants to, e.g., read from a socket. That socket doesn't exist in the replay. What would you do?
