Another one, desktop webviews don't exist either. Everyone does something custom right now and there's an epic vent fest in one of their GitHub issues. This causes about 1 new package to get released every few months too that trie

I mean making the price of iron and other materials crash has value in and of itself. All of a sudden a $100M skyscrapper could cost half as much or something. Yet the end value of the product would still be worth just as much.

There's no real benchmark for developer experience. Performance only matters up to a point. And it depends what you're building. If you're building pages where people just read content - sure - server render + vanilla js it.

Hmm instead of patching node, is there any tech that lets you make a virtualized file system on top of existing files? With that we might be able to design a system that resolves some of these module requests in a better way.

You're working too hard. Just make a linter or auto formater do the work. Agree on the rules. If the rule doesn't exist don't comment on style. You can make/debate new rules but don't mix it into code reviews - sepa

As a manager: 1. The most value I get is when people complain. It can be about the tech stack or about processes or lack of change. I then choose whether to solve the problem or teach the individual how to solve (coaching or teaching). 2. W

This is pretty cool, and could even make a great "no storage" type product here. Hmm 1 problem could be forced password changes? I've noticed some sites at times require password changes.

I think in the past I've fixed this by doubling the resolution. More precisely - detecting device pixel density and setting the canvas size based on that.

Elixir is the one for me, but I just can't kick JS/TS since I'm so productive with them. Elixir is functional, has a great concurrency story, great for real time networking, great open source community with awesome libs

Btw $1 might not be as unattractive to spammers/scammers as you'd expect. It all depends on their monetization scheme. I've seen scammers hire captcha farms if the scheme is scalably ROI positive.

Look at their password requirements : 1 symbol, 1 uppercase letter, 1 lowercase letter, 1 number - when we know that security folks at this point would say "any easy to remember phrase is better than random characters". And they w

CNIL is a pretty ridiculous organization of buearcrats. They'd rather pummel even a French company to the ground with fines rather than discuss anything. Their policies aren't particularly best practice either - you could build th

Ok here's another spin you have 3 choices: 1. Figure out in which ways exactly your company is fucked up and align to that. Be a chameleon that operates like that company does. 2. Quit and find another company that more closely aligns

So on one side we have folks saying we expect too much from OSS devs and we're burning them out. And then on the flip side in this post were saying they need to support a variety of compilers and endless hardware configurations. Person

Given how much memory we have available these days, would we build it the same way? Having copy paste usually work outta the box everywhere might be more valuable than memory savings. Sidebar: I do at this point use a copy paste history app

So funny story Ticketmaster is chosen for 2 reasons 1. It actually does have the most robust tech - although much of it is dated 2. Most shockingly because it takes the brunt of the brand punishment The ticketing, events, music, etc industr

At this point I now host my small projects (less than 10k users) exclusively on boxes in the corner of my room ha. AWS and heroku are quite expensive for small projects and performance isn't great. Dynamic IP is not a problem these day

Not sure what y'all are complaining about. The amount of privacy work that happens with governments at big tech companies is substantial. The language in this doc seems like a better, less oppressive version of GDPR.

I agree with this take. The companies I've worked at that have had multi-repos basically just obfuscated related pieces of code - ultimately leading to lots of bugs. The fact that I can grep across services is a godsend. I think we sho
