its because %99 of entrepreneurs are not idealists, they are opportunists. there are opportunities that are simpler to pursue in software than in hardware.

The user must know about overflows and act accordingly. Compiler behavior may naturally change based on optimisations since it is undefined territory.

I think that would be a great tactic for newly launched google services. Every new service gets %50 credit from me because they're all intermingled with other google services which hinders user experience and shows lack of focus.

IMHO the underlying technology has no significance. People still write native iOS apps even though HTML5 is available. Nobody will say oh they used javascript and web for every thing I must use/develop for this phone.

We can easily virtualize this and run it aside Android on Galaxy Nexus. But that would be meaningful only if it was possible to run iOS apps: " * Will it run iPhone OS apps? * No, because I'm not aiming to have compatible high level framew

I agree with how hard it is to get traction in any application. Let's assume it is an application whose value is increased with the number of people interacting. Then if you are past the initial chicken-egg problem, you can grow exponential

A social app has a potential to go viral, e.g. spread by word of mouth or via means built into the application. Spreading to all social contacts for example. You can't do that with a startup involving hardware or anything non-social.

If you have doubts about what he means, he is essentially saying this: The state of mobile and social has come to such an advantageous point for startups that it is not feasible for investors to go for the hard, truly disruptive things. And

Best writing I read this month, and I only read half of it yet. Story captures the startup situation and founder feelings really well, I found a lot of parallels.

I am wondering about the opposite case: how do they emulate graphics when there is no GPU support? Do they emulate the GPU device, or use a software library? Which library if it is done in software?

If you read the book called 'Just for fun' by torvalds, you will find some details of this conversation. Jobs had to replace the notoriously old Mac OS design, with a new kernel. He had linux and BSD as the base kernels in mind. He offered

The ARM11 cpu is too old, I wish they used at least a Cortex-A8. ARM11 has a virtually addressed cache with aliasing issues that requires all sorts of hacks in linux kernel, it will require old compiler flags and lacks other ARMv7 features.

Comparing 1998's problem set with today's tools is not a good comparison. The tools are cheaper but problem sets are also much bigger.
