This sounds like inflation. Didn't the economics say there wouldn't be any/much as a result of printing so much money?

Google's free consumer-facing products with no SLA being shut down... HN loves to complain about this. Any time there's a thread about Google, someone has to complain about the time when they shut down Reader.

Agreed, I was forced into using it years ago and still have PTSD from how awful it is. API endpoints randomly return with 500s, block devices hang or just become disconnected, provisioning is extremely slow. The unquantifiable "just wo

Supporting all that flexibility is challenging for development, and could cause issues for the end user. I can imagine that people over-customize Firefox, forget about their changes, then have bugs, finally abandon Firefox thinking it'

I know from personal finance that having a buffer in the bank is good... But this seems to be a rather large buffer. Can someone please explain what's going on with these numbers?

I don't think engineering costs are an issue for msft. Empirically, the source of msft's quality issues seem to be managerial / organizational.

To explain what I think this comment means. When working on embedded systems, you can interact with hardware devices by writing directly to specially mapped memory areas. E.g., if you want to write text to a small screen, the kernel driver

Stripe has the ability to negotiate with their upstream processors that we end users do not. Instead of trying to reduce their costs by pressuring their providers, they're passing along the fees to their customers.
