I don't think you can do an 83b for options from a private company, which is what the article is about.

Yes, but for ISO you owe AMT. It amounts to ~28% federal tax rather than ~39%. But it's still a big number.

Wow, did not know about that. What do you think the chances are it gets passed in the forseeable future?

I largely agree with you, but there are still a lot of common office functions (e.g. printing) that aren't well-served by browser-based computing. Added to which, many businesses still use custom or industry-specific desktop software

Yeah, I'm not saying smartphones aren't good or significant. Just that they haven't replaced desktop-computing -- just added to it. The article says things like "Android and iOS have replaced Windows in importance&qu

Aren't most (many?) adults professionals? Most college-educated people I know spend most of their working hours in front of a computer not a smartphone.

>"The Internet made the operating system of the computer used to access it irrelevant" Hyperbolic statements like this one make me stop reading. There's still PLENTY of important Desktop computing.

Can you say a little-more about the "sockets"? How do you implement this? I'm not even sure exactly what you mean, do you have an example? It sounds like a fun feature to implement so I'd love to hear more. Thanks

Why are all the SVGs displayed as animated GIFs? Is there no way to display native SVG animation in the browser?

I don't think you can argue that Apple has a monopoly on smart-phone OSes, so it's not really an anti-trust issue like it was with MSFT. If you don't like it, get a different phone.

You don't, but you know if you have time to deal with an issue or if you're in the middle of a critical task and can't take the risk. Nothing worse than being in the midst of a high-pressure/stress event and being force

The market seems to be solving the problem just fine: nobody uses Yahoo anymore and companies with solid security practices (e.g. Google, Apple, Facebook) are thriving. If Google had a serious security breach, you can bet the market would

Depends on which part. North-east PQ (over by Rolling Hills) homes were built in the early 70s and are still going in the low 600's. I believe west PQ (Black Mountain Rd area) homes are newer and more expensive.

I love cycling in SD -- seems very bike-friendly to me. But I live and cycle in north county, not Hillcrest/NP/SP. It does get hot in the summer at mid-day, but mornings and evenings are pleasant year-round.

I can see the appeal of places like SF and NYC for 20-somethings, but I'm in my mid-30s with 2 kids and in San Diego I can afford a nice single-family house in the suburbs with good public schools and (relatively) affordable daycare.

In north county, places like Rancho Penasquitos (92129) have great schools and you can find decent single-family homes in the low $600's these days. It's about 15 minutes from the coast without traffic -- 25 mins from downtown.

>The one killer app I'm missing on the Apple Watch is Siri Agree -- I love my FR235, but Siri is the only feature that makes me want an Apple Watch. On balance, I still prefer my Garmin, though.

An FR 235 is around $300 and has rock-solid GPS and basically equivalent features to a pebble.

This. I went from an original Pebble to a Garmin FR 235 and am completely satisfied. All I want is time, GPS, and notifications. Most watch apps are a novelty.

Yes, that sounds correct. I thought the idea, though, was to make the salt non-obvious for this reason. I would hope people aren't storing passwords in a table with a "salt" column, but I don't really know. But I think

Maybe this is OK for home-users, but many businesses run critical software on Windows computers. If you automatically implement upgrades that may break 3rd party software it can be a huge problem and is totally inexcusable for a business
