I doubt there will be a segment in between in the future. In Germany even millionaire households shop at Lidl or ALDI because nobody needs 50 types of ketchup or milk. People don't like wasting lifetime when shopping and don't lik

Also all three (Lidl/Schwarz Gruppe, Aldi Nord, Aldi Süd) are private companies and somewhat obfuscated. No shareholders demanding high dividend yield or quarterly forecasts. They operate in secrecy, even when the ALDI founders died,

Kroger has some weak points: Only US, expensive store concept, many products. ALDI and Lidl are famous for their highly efficient lean store concept. Amazon will capture the premium/delivery segment. ALDI and Lidl will capture the disc

ALDI Nord and Süd have some family issues and probably won't combine their US ventures. I see the Schwarz Gruppe (Lidl, Kaufland) as the biggest contender in the US. Kroger is probably gonna have a very bad time.

Looks to me like the ultimate war between grocery stores in the US will be fought out between Amazon/WFM (premium, delivery) and ALDI/Lidl (discount, no-frills). As a German I'm amazed by the "food haul" videos on Y

The market is always right. I just don't believe anyone is willing to take such big risks of failure anymore with so little chance of winning. SNAP was priced so expensive and just to justify the 17$ it would need to make money for yea

Most comments focus on $SNAP itself, but as JumpCrisscross noted: It's also a bad sign for SV IPOs in general. With the upcoming FED hikes and the recent stock market rally, one could say that it will be a lot harder for late stage com

I'm surprised that RedHat's OpenShift 3 / Origin does not get any publicity on HN. It uses Kubernetes (of which RedHat silently became the largest committer) and also fills several missing parts including a CD pipeline. http

How is the overlay network encrypted? I couldn't find any information. https://github.com/docker/docker/issues/24253 says it's not encrypted by default and must be enabled manually.

Just a note on IPv6 adoption: A couple of weeks ago people made fun of axle counter limitations of swiss railway SBB, however they are running IPv6 already for some months… ;; ANSWER SECTION: www.sbb.ch. 14400 IN AAAA 2a00:4bc0:ffff:ff

Yes and no. The limit until 2010 was 670m in nearly all parts of western europe. Block signals, crossroads, stations… need to be made sufficient long enough. With ETCS [1] there are no "fixed" physical block segements anymore. The

As mentioned in other comments, the maximum train length was limited in Europe to around 670m (therefore the possible axle count is rather limited) which will be increased on some networks and tracks. There are several different implementat

Axle counters are "positive only" systems e.g. if the numbers don't match or the counter resets, it will report an error and the next train needs a special safety order to enter the track section. So if you manage to combine
