Yep - I work at a great place in this regards (smallish company which helps I am sure) 1. Remote/hybrid working - dev choice 2. Good gear 3. Dedicated time for addressing tech debt/training (Friday's for us) 4. Supp

Yep - it's good job security. Learn Java first and then Kotlin or whatever after that. It'll all make a lot more sense if you have a good understanding of core Java/JVM first

Good points. Agree with slim models and I personally like a service layer. FBVs are great, CBVs are ok, GCBVs are of the devil

Had a couple years break from Java and then back to it in current job. You know what - Java is fine and I am enjoying the work. You can knacker things up in any language and modern Java has a lot of the rough edges worked out (tooling, depe

Will Vincent's books are great to get you started and productive. Django is a very deep framework though so expect to keep learning for a while https://wsvincent.com/books/

Valid points! I basically copy over my auth templates and tweaks from one project to the next but it should be a basic working auth out of the box (unstyled templates).

I think all are great frameworks and you can accomplish equally great things. I have not used Rails other than playing around but have built large systems in (many) PHP frameworks and Django. For me it came down the simple fact that I prefe

This! I often build Django apps without any javascript and it's so light weight that the pages render instantly. If there is some interactivity needed then I toss in htmx where needed.

Question: I have been looking for a way to use htmx to build mobile apps. What I iterated too was just cordova + css framework of choice + htmx. How is hyperview better/worse? Does hyperview let me use htmx or does it just share the sa

This, a thousand times this. A hundred lines of Java/Python/C# can save you at least 10 lines of a stored proc :) Also why don't they teach SQL in most schools???

There are definitely a few things I don't like in Django. Extreme OO with generic class based views, I hate mixins of any sort as well. But the organization, functionality and robust 3rd party app ecosystem are where Django shines. Als

You are right that you need to go into it with your eyes open. At least in my state it took about a year to get certified to foster and you set boundaries on what you can handle. For instance, I knew that I would not be equipped for a certa

Yep Java rocks and is well suited for larger projects. If I have a small team and need to move super fast - then I use Django. If it's > 10 devs and is going to be a large project then it's Java all the way.

I just use what is built into Django or an extension for DRF to use jwt I found the 3rd party providers to be just one more hassle. The exception being larger systems that were already running on AWS/Azure and there I used the provider
