I don't think tutorials should be advocating this. Running the dev server in prod? CMD ["python", "manage.py", "runserver", "0.0.0.0:8000"] Other than that, the rest of the article is quite nice

I have to disagree here. For all it's faults there is a very robust ecosystem of libraries to choose from.

I worked at a startup that used it. Great performance, easy to hire for, library for everything. This was 5 years ago so the .net core story wasn't as good then.

that's a good point but you do get warnings about issues (that you can block CI build on) and also much better IDE support

Yes, I am biased but that's why I asked this question - really interested in learning what has worked for other people on large projects.

I don't like all the cursing/vulgarity but you are not wrong about the culture of Java encouraging some architect astronauts - however that's a problem that has been getting better (I blame EJBs for starting it)

I love Python and have been using it for 20+ yrs as well. I have seen a lot of pain on older Python projects (pre type hints). I think you need more discipline and tests and docs to keep a large Python project on track. Not saying you can&#

Genuinely interested in your thoughts, please expand. For instance, I hear lots of great stuff about .net core but I don't see as large of an opensource ecosystem to support it - but maybe I am missing something.

Just coding for fun on whatever I want to. 25 years in the biz, lot's of enterprise work that many times was not fun. Having a blast currently with Django/Python. Also poking around with Go and Flutter/Dart.

First - it's the best and most important thing you will do in your life. Second - you'll mess up occasionally, it's ok, everyone messes up. Third - time is a pretty pony and passes fast, spend a lot of time with your kids. Go

I've had a Django app running for 3+ years (stick to an LTS release) and it requires a very occasional security update (months in-between) but generally it's a 5 minute change to update the version, run the test suite and then pus

Great book for getting started. Really helped me come up to speed a few years ago when I got back into Django.

I appreciate your perspective and the thought that went into it. I just wish beginners wouldn't feel like they need to grok GCBVs to be productive in Django. Thanks again for writing all these tips down - I definitely picked up a few t

Lot's of good points in here. I disagree with generic CBVs though. I find FBVs or vanilla CBVs easier to maintain. I like Luke Plant's article https://spookylukey.github.io/django-views-the-right-way/

Go with Django as everything is included to get up and running quickly. Your most precious commodity as a founder is your time and attention. Skip the js and build a web 1.0 site that solves a real problem that people will hand you cash for

I have the same question! Htmx is fantastic but I really wish there was an equivalent of strada/turbo-ios in the django/htmx world. I am not an app developer so in the past have just gone the pwa/add to home screen. I guess i
