FYI you can do cut in Mac. Do Cmd-C to copy and the Cmd-Option-V to cut-paste. For whatever reason, Windows has cut attached to selecting the file, but Mac has it attached to pasting the file.

Why is a judge asking a witness questions? Isn't that normally either the prosecutor or defense counsels' job?

To be clear, Linux kernel patches from good UMN researchers and students are rare. We have plenty of great people at the University of Minnesota, they just don't work on the Linux kernel. It's justifiable and natural for our name

I don't think you would need to track each container individually (as another commenter said, consumers will probably keep an extra of each item for buffer). The subscription/ordering system knows when you get a new instance of ea

Even worse, at some big companies, recruiters will ignore direct referrals and ask you to submit the resume internally through their req system. But then resumes get lost anyway. Good recruiters accept internal referrals directly.

This is something I learned recently, but some people who get lucky and find a good manager will just follow them around for a while. At least at Amazon, having a great manager is the most critical external component of having a sustainable

That doesn't sound accurate. Anecdata, but in my current org in Amazon Retail I think about 1 in 15 engineers browse HN daily. When I was in AWS it was around 1 in 3. Why do you think people in Google/Netflix/Facebook browse

Very cool project, I'm trying it out, but this is an unrelated question: what is that Vim colorscheme in your screenshot? Do you have a link?

There was a large (but informal) survey done on /r/haskell (one of the largest Haskell communities) last month about "Why Haskell sucks". The results were collated into a presentation linked below. It's a very detai

Yeah, and that's why you squash all the intermediate commits first. If all your commits on master are useful and meaningful individually, bisect works great.

An Erlang process isn't really equivalent to a Java thread. A Java thread maps to a native thread, whereas an Erlang process is entirely in userspace. Erlang processes are basically green threads without shared state. Java has no equiv

I think you should learn Rust, because there are actually things there that you can't learn about in other languages. 1. How to manually manage memory more safely with aid from a borrow checker. 2. If you don't already have experi

I'm not a d3 dev, but from what I've heard is that the current d3.min.js is v3, the current standard. The various small modules that are coming out are v4, and are meant to entirely replace the larger d3 package. Ideally, the enti

In Redux, if you edit the user's name, that would dispatch/trigger an action {type: 'SET_USER_NAME', payload: 'New Name'}. The store would take the current state and the action and generate the new state. Then

Shouldn't, not can't. You still can have components keep their own state, and that may be the right decision for small/localized/ephemeral state, such as what's selected in a dropbox, or the coordinates of a widget

Not really. It doesn't matter that Haskell is lazy by default, so long as you called the function on a lazy stream data structure. Clojure is strict but it can do this efficiently as well, I think.
