Forbes doesn't even work with an adblocker for the last couple weeks. If you want to hear about the actual settlement, here's a ReCode article: http://recode.net/2015/12/30/apple-to-pay-348-million-to-settle-italy-tax-probe/ http://recode.net/2015/12/30/apple-to-pay-348-million-to-set...
Not sure if the article brings up the same discussion and conclusions as the Forbes one though.
- pen2l 11y agoForbes is using the 'FuckAdblock' thing... so yes, it doesn't work when you're using Adblock. But if you install the FuckFuckAdblock extension, you should be able to see the article. Here's a link to the extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/fuckfuckadblock/hbpkckdpldklpnkfacfjpjhajmenaejo?hl=en https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/fuckfuckadblock/hb...
- nickpsecurity 11y agoI thought you were kidding until I clicked the link. Probably named with intent to inspire comments just like yours. Lmao.
- pen2l 11y agoHah :) So, as it happens, I was just last night talking to a guy who was basically attempting to make a 'FuckFuckFuckAdblock' -- a js solution to detecting the presence of FuckFuckAdblock extension. (I'm not sure how far he got, I'll try getting in touch with him soon to see how that's going. And, the guy was looking into creating this just for kicks, he's not in the ads industry). Anyway, so naturally we might very well soon be seeing a FuckFuckFuckFuckAdblock extension (or F^4, if you would).
- nickpsecurity 11y agoThe logical conclusion of all this is probably a FuckEmAll extension that uses an ADsafe-style subset of HTML/CSS/JS, automatically transforms anything to it, performs checks that focuses on attackers' goals rather than tactics, and thereby prevents "all types of fuckry." - balls187 11y agoWorked for me using Ad Block Plus.
- pen2l 11y agoI use microAdblock Origin, and Forbes doesn't work for me. Only with FuckFuckAdblock does Forbes work for me. p.s.: you should use microadblock origin over ABP -- search past HN discussions for why it's preferable :)
- stephengillie 11y agoWith all of the back-and-forth in this Adblock War, is anyone verifying these new extensions that can MITM you from your browser?
- lvillani 11y agoI'm using uBlock Origin and it works just fine.
- v0x 11y agoInteresting. I'm using uBlock Origin 1.5.2 and the site refuses to load.
- Taylor_OD 11y agoI'm on uBlock Origin 1.5.2 and cannot access Forbes as well.
- bryanlarsen 11y agoI'm on uBlock Origin and got a page telling me to turn off my adblocker to access the content. I did so, and it worked.
- gorhill 11y agoI did get the message, clicked "Continue", did get the message again, clicked "Continue" again then it worked -- without having to disable uBO. Edit: ok I also get the issue after I clear all the cookies for forbes.com. I added a new filter to fix this.
- Freestyler_3 11y agoI got 1.5.2 as well but I can access forbes. (no message at all)
- Dylan16807 11y agoSame here. Perhaps the fact that I'm blocking almost all third party requests is breaking the anti-ad-blocker feature.
- latimer 11y agoIt's a test they're running so not all users with ad blockers will see it. You can get around it by setting the forbes_ab cookie to false before clicking continue.
- falcolas 11y agoAlso fails with a hosts file based block... which means if their ad partners are down for any reason, you can't view their site. Interesting choice.
