The request for payment in rubles came about when contracts were already signed. If you unilaterally decide to change the terms of a contract it's quite obvious that the other party may not agree.

The fact that Trump and Epstein were friends has always been known, it was always obvious that he would be in the files concerning him. Musk's accusation is relevant because it's a maga personality saying it, and blind supporters

I don't have trauma (that I can recall) which seems breath related, but this is my case. I'm also kinda ok with guided breath work of the "breath in, hold, out" kind but if I'm counting I get stressed out.

In keeping with "Cory Doctorow essay style" this is long, dense, and makes a ton of good points, e.g. > we don't have to be eternal prisoners of the catastrophic policy blunders of clueless lawmakers of old

Is there something missing in ruby's pattern matching? It has subpatterns, alternation, pinning, guards. I've got limited experience with it but it seems on par with what most languages have.

You cannot vote out a single member of the government/parliament in many democracies, it is not an intrinsic characteristic of any system we call so.

Nitpick: doublethink is not about language, it's about keeping two contradictory ideas in one's mind and thinking them both true ("war is peace"). This is just plain "surveillance is bad when bad people do it, not w

Does it? I've only been to Portugal a couple times (Lisbon and Porto) and houses had bidets (standalone), while bathrooms didn't, but didn't have tp buckets either.

What kind of bidet? I assume it's Italian/French style bidet (a separate item from the WC) and not the Japanese/SEA thing where it's a WC addition. The fact we use the same term for three different kind of things is deep

Do the same in change for all? E.g. implement a simple compiler for a C-ish language with only functions, if and while loops; as the big change, ask to add for loops.

The shortened title on HN is misleading, "masking improvement" vs "masking whether the students improved". The former seems to say the students did improve but this was not visible.
