Nobody wants attrition, but it does happens. In the long term competition for WFH jobs is basically by timezone rather than by geo area. That means as an employee you're competing against a bigger talent pool, and as the workforce rene

I think it's too early to tell what's going to happen with silicon valley companies. The chips are still way up in the air. They profess a return to office, and many people can't wait to go back. But there's also a lot o

I think it's possible but it's also not clearly borne out by the data yet. What came out was that TikTok was "most downloaded", but that is in part because they've been paying $$$ for user acquisition through ads. T

One thing to watch out for will be the treatment of divisive topics. It's eaten up so much of classic social media players because divisive content does well in terms of raw engagement, but it's not been my experience on TikTok. I

Why have this fake deadline at all then? That sounds like it is playing fast and loose with the system, since it practically requires a nontrivial action to postpone.

Why isn't the "market area" that sets pay levels for a remote worker defined by timezone, not by CBSA? After all, from the work-being-done perspective, a remote worker in rural Oregon is the same as if they were working from

Cost of living adjustments aren't necessarily fair either. Between two office workers who do the same job in the same location, should the one being thrifty by choosing to live in a lower cost area farther away from the office be paid

In theory yes, in practice I've observed many seasoned software engineers operate without being paranoid enough about the fact that APIs they publish can be hit by clients other than the one they designed.

The other big push for APIs comes from mobile apps, which also tend to follow a model close to the web's single-page applications. Would be good to have a reliable setup to do this from iPhone and Android devices.

Maybe more the opportunity cost of being an egotistical douchebag? It's amazing to see the stories in the magazines talk about the tech and the future of work, but gloss over the world of hurt this guy appears to be leaving in his wake

This is very sensible. One challenge is to encourage cooperation. One interesting aspect of strategy is to prevent findings to be used in court. For example, findings of probable cause by the US NTSB cannot, by law, be admitted as evidence
