My understanding from the last thread on this was that the decision mostly came from the people running the Italian site.

A blog post (one of Steve Yegge's, I think) linked to one of PG's articles, and I wound up reading through the archive. At some point, I followed a link from that site to HN.

Various biomolecules, including DNA, RNA, enzymes, and small molecules, could all potentially be used as inputs. And it should be possible to link the outputs into relevant biological functions, including gene expression. This would sugge

Unless the post has been edited since, I don't see anywhere in the post where says the word lie. As to your second point, it depends on how the number is being presented. If it's being shown as the number of recommendations, then including

Looks like he's a new user that got mostly downvotes on his early comments. In isolation, I can't entirely disagree the downvotes, but it seems to me that the system ought to be more tolerant of people that screw up their first couple posts

I think that he means the copy that gets returned is what gets destructively modified. In other words, the overall process winds up being functional and nondestructive, but the intermediate internal steps aren't necessarily so.

The fact that it's the average for reported incidents probably cuts out a lot of the outliers on the low end of the scale.

I'm currently in the process of learning it, and I'd definitely recommend it. If nothing else, it's great having a compiler that can catch a large amount of errors without getting bogged down in the type boilerplate that many other static l

From what the article says, it sounds like the tax is reverting back to a previous level. I'm sure this will do little to help family farms. However, if it didn't kill them off the last time it was there, then what makes this time around s

Since they're running pipes anyways, I wonder whether it would be better to have a urinal that auto flushes itself once a day or so. The water savings would probably be comparable to a plain no-flush, but it seems like it might save some o

An interesting idea, but in this video it just spooked the burglar enough to send them running. How much of an effect would there be if they decided to just grab some things and feel their way out. I suppose it would limit the time someone

I have as well, though in my experience a lot of those issues have been fixed. Especially with sound, I haven't seen much in the way of problems since 9.10 shipped with a kernel that ran pulseAudio acceptably.

Out of curiosity, what do you find yourself having to use the command line for? I tend to use it out of preference, but I can't offhand think of any "regular" tasks I do that would require it. Some more obscure bits of troubleshooting migh

Gimp has a batch mode that lets you run commands without loading the UI. That would probably achieve the same thing, although it might be a little much if you're sure that all you want is resynthesizer.

It seems to me that a reasonable compromise would be to make automatic copyright a relatively short term deal in the neighborhood of 15-25 years. But at the same time, allow copyright holders to pay a fee to extend the copyright for a furt
