FWIW, Silverlight does run on OS X[1]. The demo link above was for WPF. The Silverlight version is here: http://demos.telerik.com/silverlight/ [1] http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/Get-Started/Install/...

Instant short-links is a nice idea, especially if you're aiming for the Twitter market. Progressive enhancement would be good: the background doesn't render correctly in IE9 making the main text impossible to read. That applies to the homep

Perhaps there's a distribution deal or popular website in South America that requires Chrome to function best (Orkut?). Or perhaps, as you said, it's just a network effect.

The bias in the user population for a site that teaches web development is going to be huge. The link you provide states: "W3Schools is a website for people with an interest for web technologies. These people are more interested in using al

The worldwide mobile browser market share chart is iffy. They're suggesting that Safari Mobile (i.e. iPhone + iPod + iPad) accounts for 62% of the market. The numbers are based on web-page visits to sites that are part of the 'net applica

I think the key phrase here is "employee owned Macs". They don't say what the equivalent results are for "employee owned Windows PCs", but I'd bet they're in the same ballpark. And when they say "owned" they really mean "administrated", mea

Maybe I'm missing something here, but if the password is being checked on a remote system, then the variance in network transfer time is going to far, far (by many orders of magnitude) outstrip the difference in time a CPU takes to compare

There was a This American Life episode a little while back that had a counter example to this anecdote: sometimes there is something in your process that makes your product special but you don't even know it until it disappears. Audio here[

Does "fiancee" even have any legal defintion in the US? Nobody signs anything when they propose and I'm pretty sure that states don't recognise it as a legal status, at least not until various common-law cohabitation conditions comes into p

Abstinence _education_ was the point of my comment. South Africa, the origin of this product, has been subjected to various abstinence-only education programs from outside sources and these are known to have negligible results[1]. Anything

There are two huge problems with this service: trust and privacy. Trust: a one page website is asking for access to my Gmail account. As far as I can tell, this means it gets access to everything 24/7. EVERYTHING. Holy crap. Because of the

The plane was diverted. Perhaps it just went out of range of a GOGO ("AirCell") tower? After all, it did end up in Denver on its way from NYC to LAX, so it's feasible that instead of following a popular route with good AirCell reception, it

This is what the KIDS.US domain was supposed to be. Their directory lists fewer than 10 sites that successfully signed up. All of the content is dead or stale. Just how do you police any sort of dynamic, interesting, ever changing content?
