As an introvert who has spent the past couple of years actively working on this, I agree with the article. We are social mammals, we are supposed to have conversations with other people. Even before we were sheltering in place, a lot of peo

My primitive understanding is that the bottleneck for bacterial reproduction is DNA replication, so there’s a huge incentive to shed unneeded DNA, especially with mechanisms to get genes back via HGT. Am I right in thinking that the more ef

I'm not a biologist, but my understanding is that bacteria are much more likely to undergo horizontal gene transfer when undress stress. (Particularly troubling these days for antibiotic resistance.) Seems like it would be a natural ne

This is a very important point. Human lifespan is already an outlier compared to our primate cousins and other creatures of similar (or even larger size). I'm sure there's plenty of room for "optimization", but it's

Love The Food Lab. (And I think my grilled cheese is pretty decent, at least according to my kids, which is saying something.) ;-) Agree with everything you are saying here, but I'll add that salads often have a bad reputation (I avoid

I actually started with a bit of honey and removed it after some experimentation. Figure any time I can avoid adding sugar and like the taste as much or more, I should take advantage. ;-) I'm with you the cleaning graters-- too lazy fo

This is so important. I don't know if you can "learn to cook" in an hour, but you can probably drive to the store, buy some vegetables, come home, and make a great salad with an awesome homemade vinaigrette dressing in less t

You can get a battery replacement kit from iFixit and do the repair yourself. Not trivial, but really not bad.

This works for many kinds of writing. I often tell people who are trying to work on their website copy to do this. Otherwise your mind comes up with too many objections and you don't get anything done. ;-)

YMMV, of course, but I thought I was the same way. Then I realized that I like having some conversations but not others. But I would get put into the conversations I didn't like, which made me retreat to recharge and not get as many of

Yup. Digital communication is fine to set up real communication, but it's like fast food-- cheap, fast, convenient, but not very nourishing. Even us introverts need real conversations. Was talking to a bunch of people a year or two ago

Totally agree. I know most people put cases on their phones, but it bugs me that mine won't lay flat on a surface. It seems very un-Apple-y. ;-)

I guess I just have to keep typing? What would be the point? How long do I have before the screen goes fuzzy? Blank? I lose everything entirely? Seems like the best strategy would be just to type really slowly. Then, your thoughts would al

Yes. And if you’re not sure what to do next, the next thing to do is figure out that next step. Sounds circular and silly, but helps tremendously to realize, hey, I got stuck, let me take a step back and figure out what I’m really trying to

I’ve found it’s helpful to just be genuinely curious about the people you meet. This seemed hard because although I am curious, I’m introverted and I don’t like to be nosy. But you don’t have to Start with heavy questions. For example, aski

This is a great point. And the irony is that the more discursive the environment is, the less people feel heard, the more loudly (at least metaphorically) they speak, in a vicious cycle. This doesn't fulfill the need for conversation a
