What does a rich tech bro make these days?

Out where?

by retrac98 5y ago
Not planning to.

I’m not aiming for anything as radical as a lot of the replies seem to think. I just want bit of space to breathe cleaner air, grow food and install some renewables.

It’s not this simple.

It’s the easiest thing we can do but it’s only a small part of the overall problem. We all need to do much more in addition to just not eating animals. Endless production, consumption and growth the way we’re currently doing it is just comp

I’m going to sell up my city house and get a little land in the country so we can be more self sufficient while shit increasingly hits the fan. We in the first world need to radically reduce our consumption and reassess our relationship wit

For me it's that whenever the media report on a subject I have expertise in, I can immediately see how much of what's reported is total bs.

The UK really shat the bed since the 2008 financial crisis, huh.

Seems the real story here is climate change significantly increasing the price of a staple food. “Pasta is cheap anyway” is such a privileged point of view.

Sorry for your loss, nobody should have to go through that. How do people in the US who don’t have insurance get treatment for themselves or their family members in situations like this? It seems inconceivable to me that they or their kids

Interestingly the site is completely ad free within the UK as it’s funded by the public.

Good to see. Rails is still a fantastic framework for building web apps in 2020.

It’s about power dynamics. Generally speaking, one bad employee isn’t going to tank a company, whereas this makes it possible for one bad tweet to tank a person’s employment prospects.

Name and shame these companies until this stops.

This article is utterly fucked on my phone. Content disappearing right off the edge of the viewport that you can’t scroll to.

Yes, it’s extremely viable if you’re good at it.

Banking in the states must be pretty awful, because as someone living in the UK, I don't think there's anything here I don't already get with my existing bank accounts. I can pay with my phone or a tap of my card pretty much

Can't upvote this enough. People seem to think having an electric or induction hob is somehow superior to gas. Nah. Gas is by far the best thing to cook on.

While I think this is probably a net good, at what point does my computer stop being my computer? What if I want to keep something Apple dislikes on my machine?

99%+ of my usage of the touchbar is pressing escape, adjusting screen brightness, speaker volume, or accessing music controls. All of these worked flawlessly when I had physical keys, but now it's hard to know what I'm pressing wi

I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. It’s slow to adopt new standards and a pain to develop for, but as a bit of consumer software it’s the best browser out there IMO.

The irony of being prevented from reading this article because the site “sees you’re using an ad blocker”....

I know there’s not a mass market for it, but I think a lot of privacy conscious folks would pay extra not to have apps on their TV.

by retrac98 7y ago
Is there a market out there for a modern dumb TV? A good panel, decent speakers and a load of I/O in a slick enclosure? I think I’d buy this.

I quit caffeine altogether a while ago, and it's made a huge difference to my quality of life and work. When I wake up, I'm actually awake. When I go to bed, I'm actually sleepy. I don't wake up several times during the
