They are, but most exploit profit opportunities introduced into market prices by human actors. If humans were rational, there would be just as many people betting against stocks as betting on them. The idea that upward price movement is a

Your comment ignores the dimension of the market that is volume and only focuses on price. If you hold inventory, you might be able to sell one unit at $x, but the buyer willing to buy the next 99 units may only be willing to offer a lower

If you read the reviews and stay with a good host, you are getting a level of service far beyond most hotels. Not sure what your experience was like, but I’d be surprised if the host has good reviews.

It’s so sad that one of the most courageous soldiers in the history of the US military has been treated so horribly by the government.

I’m the opposite. I have had so many good experiences at Airbnb properties and a few years ago I started being a host. It’s a fantastic platform. You really do have to read the reviews, though, both as a guest and as a host.

Airbnb has a variety of different cancellation policies available to hosts. As a host, I use the strict one because I can’t always schedule a last minute cleaning, and I find that people who plan ahead and don’t need to change are more resp

I think we generally agree. As you point out, all illegal immigrants are criminals by definition, so there is a lot of sloppy rhetoric and innuendo that is possible based on that technicality. Trump exploits it to the max. I think Trump int

Those are reasonable points, and I acknowledge based on the details you mentioned that the incident of Trump referring to a "hoax" may not fit the standard pattern Trump uses. In another comment in this thread I describe the patte

I didn't downvote your comment, by the way. It's a fair point. Many politicians have tried to rally support for border security by describing illegal immigration as a source of violent crime. Trump mentioned "rapists" in

Most of the press coverage about China in the US focuses on pollution, sewage, labor practices, authoritarianism, etc. It's not surprising that many have such a one-sided view and forget how easy it would be to present the US in simila

Trump has mastered the art of saying word salads that convey what he wants but do not syntactically say what he communicated. He is the most talented politician the US has seen in decades, and this is just one example. He says the word sala

That perspective is remarkably charitable to Trump, who not only claimed that the virus was a "hoax", but mobilized his loyalists in the media to spread harmful ideas about the level of contagion and lethality. It is important to

I think this is one of the more interesting questions we get the chance to observe as things play out. China's government is more technocratic, more pragmatic, and also more authoritarian than the US. All of those are very useful ch

Supporting "liberty" would lead just as logically to being "anti-China" as it would to being "anti-US". China is perhaps more authoritarian, but not fundamentally different.

HN is actually surprisingly pro-Trump. I have been shocked at the broad support for economic nationalism (trade protectionism, etc.) from HN participants, as well as the chorus of agreement with Trump's anti-China stance.
