I'm not surprised. For the same reason OpenSSH should be very well founded, and if I recall correctly it's not the case. One of the points of open source is that software becomes a commodity, and that will always hurt OSS founding

After finishing my "One Game a Month" challenge in 2014 I got back to my plan to learn (again) some electronics and I'm building a AVR based 8-bit 80s style microcomputer. On January I got the video driver (composite video, P

Thanks for the clarification. I'm not familiar with Microsoft programs and I didn't know what "IoT platform" was (in fact, didn't know that IoT was "Internet of Things").

I have a success story with that. I moved abroad and I have a chat with my parents using Skype from time to time. After the Microsoft acquisition Skype had to be upgraded and the old version stopped working. My parents aren't tech-savv

I'm building an 8-bit microcomputer myself using the popular AtMega328p (basically and Arduino board), as an excuse to learn electronics. Turns out I'm mostly learning AVR stuff, because the MCU will do most of the work; but I dig

The problem is that the process is good for the software but it won't be good for the users in the early iterations. I use Fedora at home and I love it, but sometimes it is a little bit too experimental and in this case I'm afraid

I can relate to this. I started with ZX Spectrum 128K's Basic and then moved to GWBasic on a Nec V40 (80186 compatible), my first PC. When I got a computer good enough to run QBasic (or anything newer than DOS 3.3), it could compile C

To be fair it was a beta of the "Ubuntu Netbook Remix" and that bug was shortly fixed. I took some screenshots because I really liked the interface, but none of them show the bug because I usually stick to en_GB and the problem wa

Slightly OT, mi favourite localization error was in Ubuntu when they had that nice netbook interface (that later would become Unity). The network icon label was "Rojo" in the Spanish localization, that is the word for "red&qu

I love how the author found consumer components and put them together to build the handheld. Looks really good! There are a lot of inspiring projects over the web, but very often they require tools that aren't available to everybody or

You can use pigz with SSH as you can pipe commands over SSH (google it). If nc is faster than scp, I guess encryption is a factor, but then they're not comparable solutions to the same problem.

I don't agree. Desktops matter. I use the same XFCE version in Ubuntu and Fedora, and they look/behave the same. You need to get to install software to find differences. I guess Unity is only available in Ubuntu, but that's j

I'm not an expert but AFAIK it makes sense: he's using an AVR and that's Harvard architecture, meaning code and data use different buses so all you can run must be in the flash of the microprocessor. So emulation is a way to

There are some pixel art tutorials: http://www.pixelprospector.com/the-big-list-of-pixel-art-tut... For me it really helped to configure Gimp for pixel art: set the pen to 1 pixel, save some palettes, set the grid to 8x8 wh

I use Gimp mostly, once I learnt how to tweak it for pixel art it is quite good. For me all starts with the right palette. It really helps to get what you're looking for. I usually work with 64 colors (unless there's any special r

OP here! Sorry about that. It could be a problem with SoundJS lib, because the volume is really low in my Moto G for some reason. Now that I think of it, I didn't try it with headphones.

Oh, you're almost right. What you're describing has been happening in Spain for years with a blank media tax called "canon”, and more recently (2007) with its last iteration as "digital canon": http://en.
