Apple can say they don't automatically copy over songs purchased in another region. Allowing you to "purchase" the songs again for free sounds like a workaround that the parent found. However you look at it it's not for

It is Apple's fault because they could have easily defaulted to preserving all songs rather than deleting them. It took extra work for Apple programmers to add a function to iTunes that removes songs not purchased in the same region. W

I get about 2-3 FPS on Firefox 33 for Linux. Could be the Nouveau driver. The Nvidia driver slows down Firefox so I can't switch back.

I suggest taking a look at Physically Based Rendering [1]. It goes through an advanced rendering system in a literate coding style. That is, the physical explanations are interspersed with the code of an open source renderer [2]. I'm n

You needn't be bothered about not sharing the same frustrations as others. Jonathan Blow is a game developer so the low-level memory management is very important. As a high-level programmer, you may never run into the same issues. That

Yes, Saturdays are not "required" work days for white collar workers, but overtime is the norm and often approaches 60 hours. For blue collar workers I've seen 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. Yep, not a single day off despite

There is a downside to hacking-as-livelihood. Many workers are overworked. They hack for a living, but seldom have time to hack for fun. This is especially true among software developers. There are far fewer activities organized around prog

I think inflation has more of an effect on savings than earnings, but what you said about supporting a family 50 years ago rings true. I don't think today's salaries go as far as they did in the past few decades.

My big question is how can software--particularly free software--create jobs? Take operating systems. With free alternatives the trend is towards commoditization and declining prices. Same goes for almost any category of desktop software. T

I feel the same way towards Macs. Macs "just work" out of the box until you try to customize anything or install up to date dev tools. Gnome 3 works out of the box (for me at least). Plus you have source code if you need to debug
