Yep that was the first one i slapped my forehead at missing, because I actually knew what it was but figured it must ALSO be a tolkien character since I was sure it wasn't an antidepressant.

10/24. Wow. You'd think it would be hard to do worse than a coin flip. On the other hand, I guess many coin flip sets are going to end up "worse than a coin flip" :D

The internet and globalization of markets and cheap shipping has taken a lot of the wonder away. It used to be a friend would go to Japan and come back with this absolutely futuristic walkman that simply wasn't available in the US ma

Wow. Absolutely stunning. I had forgotten all about DAK, but I must have spent hours poring over each catalog (the earliest I remember is the 1985 one), and could spend days re-reading now. The funny thing is -- and I don't see it ment

A car cutting in front of me and me not panicking and slamming on the brakes is actually a mark of knowing how to drive. The one example of me driving aggressively had nothing to do with forward collision warning, and was actually about bra

This is a bad take if you haven't driven every single car on the market in order to inform yourself. I agree most of them are surprisingly good -- the forward collision warning system on my Golf R only made a few mistakes in the 3 year

We all compare ourselves upwards. Related, you might wonder why a strong cyclist bothers buying a $10k bike. After all, they'd be faster than most people on even the cheapest bike! But they start riding with others, and their peers are

Facebook seems to be of two minds with regard to "social" media. On the one hand, they're forcing awful reels/stories type anti-social content that's largely meant for passive consumption and zero engagement, while

There's probably no real mechanism, it's just that the circles they all run in agree "yes, yes, office life is important", the same way you're more likely to support some social issue if your friends do.

I had an empeg in my '95 M3 from around 2001-2004 (?) It was a 20GB version, if memory serves, which was the largest available at the time without going to a 2 hard disk version (2.5" HDDs). It retailed for $2000 but I bought it f

I wish I could just buy an annual subscription to the national parks. Last time I checked, it was $85 a year. I'd happily 'donate' that on years I don't visit the parks at all. Just set up recurring billing! But, nope. G
