Perhaps you need storage in terabytes for something. 12TB on your own machine is relatively cheap. On AWS, not so much. Read speed is another factor.

Thinking that Apple should buy an overpriced company (in billions) that doesnt have a sustainable business model to improve their web serices is ludicrous at best. If you are going to spend money in that scale, buy TomTom. At least you woul

Sadly, you can create a structure to rationalize any behavior that is destructive to other human beings as "good". Operating/creating a machine that causes death is quite often reframed as "defend" or "save lives" in certain situations that

Basically, I learned how to build a small robot this weekend. I did not even know how to operate a tiny little Servo on Saturday morning and by Sunday night I was hooking it up to the Android Speech SDK. Let me know if you got questions. Ho

The ODBL license change was done 8 days ago and took 2 years to change. I was referring to the CC-share alike license it had before for the past several years. This was in reference to Apple using it (if they wanted to fix the data, they wo

OSM doesn't do elevation. OSM doesn't do geocoding. OSM doesn't do routing. OSM doesn't do 3D. OSM doesn't have a cleaned up dataset of Points of Interest. I love OSM and I use it every day - but I know what it does, what it is good for and

I meant "much better" than what Apple already has. I don't think it will be easy for them to catch up (it would be absurd to say that they can have something better than Google Maps in such a short time). What bothers me a lot, is that mo

Openstreetmap's doesnt address any of the OP's issues. Having built maps for the past 12 years, I know exactly what of each of those issues are about. The blurry images are underlying base layers that drew first and then probably the uppe

Why do you say the browser is missing? My app, in certain parts, uses the native OS's Webkit views for rendering all kinds dynamically generated mustache forms. In fact, there are all kinds of javascript hooks that call native OpenGL code.

The Android jni documentation shows how to call C++ and is the only doc I have glanced through. If you stick to passing ints, doubles and strings through it it is really easy. For iOS is way simpler, since your wrapper is just a file that en

Interesting. I do like to use the native gui Api for each platform to get the native look/feel. Does lua/jit have its own implementation of buttons, tableviews and such or does it use the native controls of the system?

It is a pain to debug C++ on Android even if gdb comes with the ndk. Practically speaking, it turns out debugging C++ code can be done on any platform (Xcode on Mac, codeblocks on Linux, whatever). My entry point C++ class has a unit test t

Yeah, I already write cross-platform code with C++ and it is really not as bad as anyone leads you to believe. Create one single C++ entry point object that drives everything else. Use sqlite for storage, jsonc for serializing/deserializing
