I'll give you an example for CouchDB that, for the first time in my life, I saw an advantage: I created a webapp where a user can author a form (with several different kinds of fields), then it syncs with a mobile app that downloads the for

And that is somehow a valid justification for writing an inadequate "native" app? Why would you choose to do it this way then if the platform you are targeting is 1) important and 2) doesn't have good support for whatever technology you are

Since mobile is their biggest growth platform and considering that they have the resources, I just don't see this as a strong argument. I always thought it was very silly that the website ran better and faster in Safari vs the "native" app.

A huge advantage of PostgreSQL over MySQL is PostGIS (the geospatial extension of PostGIS). I can't believe they don't even mention this.

When explaining this, I usually turn it around and say "How long will it take you to get 10,000 paid recurring customers? OK, how about 2?" Then the concept of task estimation and scope starts to make sense to most people.

Although it is true that certain languages give you the flexibility of writing "utter crap", I can also write pretty crappy unmaintainable code in pure C just as easily. Nevertheless, after 14 years of coding in C++, I love how beautiful my
