I haven't been able to find it -- does that requirement require that the price be the same for both methods? That is, can you charge in-app users $10 and non-app users $7 so the net is the same?

This sounds similar to something on iOS 4.2. If you use any part of the asset library framework, which includes something as benign as building a photo chooser for the media library, the device prompts the user to allow access to location s

The iPad (not sure about the iPhone) also has a JPEG hardware decoder. iOS 4.2 finally provided at least some level of access to this and it makes a huge difference.

I actually use the clock for something other than time: it tells me when the computer is bogged down/frozen. If the seconds stop updating, it means something else is sucking the resources (usually some loop in the latest build of whatever a

You can use @public, @private, or @protected on the instance variables. Unfortunately these do not extend to the properties themselves and you have to use a different approach as in the sibling comment: @interface SomeClass (SomePrivate

I disagree. I believe you should only have to collect sales tax in and for the jurisdiction where you do business (i.e., the city/county/state combo). Washington state changed how they require sales tax a couple years ago and now charges sa

There's actually quite a bit of overhead at the CG* and Core Animation layers of the SDK that bump that up substantially. In the current iPad, it takes just a bit over 10 MB to store the image data for 1024x768 and have the necessary system

I can corroborate this with iPad app sales. I believe a large number of iPads were Christmas gifts this year and am in my highest grossing 30-day stretch to date.

To be fair, most single-window apps on OS X already quit when the window is closed. This is typically the desired behavior, especially for those less computer-savvy.

It's becoming increasingly more popular for developers to release a free, ad-laden version in addition to the paid version though. NetNewsWire is one example and Kiwi is another.

It'd have to completely lose its ability to edit and save root-owned config files and such in order to adhere to App Store guidelines. I use that all of the time.

Depends. Could you get an app out and selling before the second model comes out? It's possible you could very easily recoup the cost of the current one and then some between now and that release date.

It's also worth noting here that you can pay $25 to get the set of 200 and another set of 80 in both bitmap and vector formats without the CCA license.

Just by having a reasonably successful non-game iPad app in the App Store, I've begun to receive a number of requests for custom-tailored enterprise versions of the app. I've solved the arguably "hard" problem of larger image viewing within

I've actually seen my review time go down as I've made more and more money on my app per day. I was getting 8-9 day turnarounds at the start but now average 2-4 days with only the occasional spike.

UIPopoverController does not retain itself and will cause a crash shortly after that release. Both the iOS SDK and the Cocoa SDK are fairly inconsistent about which presentation classes require retaining and which handle that themselves --

The lack of a decent simulator also affects web apps. I downloaded the SDK and installed it in hopes of using it to test mobile versions of sites. It's rather difficult to test when it can take ten minutes to fully load and render a page!
