I imagine the non-popular videos are sent directly from central servers. By offloading the most popular spikes to P2P maybe they're able to reduce costs enough to make it worth it.

The whole concept of templating language on top of YAML is suspect anyway, but I wish Salt had just gone with Mako as the default templating language. That way you could write plain Python in your templates and not have this horrible misuse

Jenkins's main problem for me will always be the lack of focus on storing pipelines/jobs as source code. Jenkinsfiles are horrible both to read and write.

I don't think it's a matter of not understanding how SQL selects work etc., it's more that ORMs don't make it easy to find all the places in our code which might need this relationship prefetched. The fact that it's

What's the alternative? Writing your own CI/CD system from scratch? You're going to be relying on some external dependency for important things anyway, you just have to pick one that is dependable.

Mgmt looks awesome. It's just a shame it arrives so late, when stuff like containers and orchestration systems (read: Docker and Kubernetes) is taking over lots of responsibilities traditionally left to configuration management. Not to

I've had to work with lots of configuration management the past few years, and I'm always cleaning up the mess because we did this for 2 decades. The world may not have collapsed but I sure have lost weeks or months of productive

Configuration management software is good to have for managing servers because 1) they are mutable, 2) you're not always building from scratch, and 3) you may have to support many different environments (different distros, distro versi

Whether it's one VM or multiple, you still have to write the configuration management code (Puppet modules, Ansible roles...) to do so, and some of them will need tweaking for specific applications (e.g. in Python, installing libxml or

I don't disagree that deploying Go or Rust apps (I think the author is wrong to include JVM in that bunch) is much nicer compared to ones where you rely on shared libraries system-wide, and may even remove the need for Docker. However,

I looked at monitors 35" and larger and the cheapest I could find are at least twice as expensive as the corresponding TVs. Maybe it's just a marketing thing but there are definitely differences which make monitors a hard sell to

What would you do instead if you want to test things that need to run on actual VMs? Configuration management or whatever. Is booting a VM at a public cloud provider any less of a hack?
