Only one backwards incompatible change in the changelog. I think they just went the wordpress route and didn't want to bump from 1.9 to 1.10.

I have to imagine it's about how bad a crash would affect you. If you can make hourly backups and the data loss is not a huge deal, I don't see why you wouldn't, but for more important stuff just go the extra mile and get som

My main reason to not use pass is that I can't allow multiple private keys to unlock the password store. I don't want to transfer my private key between all my machines.

I really like gitolite, except how you need to add users and SSH keys through a git repository. I'd prefer just plain configuration files that I could manage with my configuration manager.

Is that really something you want to do in-memory? Once you have to start multiple worker processes or application servers behind a load balancer, you'll have to re-implement it with some sort of shared persistant store like Redis.

> 99% of the PGP-encrypted emails we get to security@golang.org are bogus security reports. Whereas “cleartext” security reports are only about 5-10% bogus. That seems odd. I wonder why it's like that?

With 100K users and a minimum cooldown time of 5 minutes, there's 100K tiles per 5 minutes would be an upper limit. Only bots would hit that 5 minute cooldown every single time, and bots make up a very small minority of the users. Th

Depends, the author suggests that one way to fix this is to extract the shared logic into a microservice of its own, but that may not be possible at all times. I also think that functionally, there's a very small difference between a l

I don't think that's useful data. That could just as well be the code is more optimized for postgres, or the postgres client library in the language being used is more performant for some reason.

I like to argue that you can start off using PHP as a scripting language with a single index.php file, then maybe learn to use some of the simple frameworks like Slim (though even that has become more complicated recently), then move from t

A bit hard for me to tell what happened here, maybe because I don't know anything about SVN. The two PDFs with equal SHA1 hashes were git commited to the repository, but converting that to an SVN commit failed because... SVN can't

Maybe. Or maybe the culture at Uber is really not that uncommon, and maybe managers at Uber will have plenty of like-minded friends who would be more than willing to give them a referral at other companies.

Zabbix and Icinga2 were the most appealing alternatives that didn't require versioned config files for alerts last time I checked. I think Grafana will fill the basic GUI alerting needs, though. When you need more than a simple flat tr

We'll probably be in the same position. Grafana will make simple thresholds easy to visualize, Kapacitor can do more advanced anomaly detection, and we still need something like Sensu to do alerts that aren't really bound to metri

I dislike this. The reasons I like semantic versioning is that it encourages things that I consider to be good: - releasing features separately from bugfixes - releasing backwards-compatible new features - releasing bugfixes for older relea
