There are lots of frameworks people can build on. So it doesn't have to be from scratch.

Unity will survive but this could be the start of a steady decline of users, which isn't good for any game engine. Leads to a loss of knowledge which makes the engine even less popular. Ghe whole situation is somewhat similar to when G

Honestly hope someone else does a dual screen clamshell design. Imagine a indie clamshell console (kinda of like the Playdate) I'd make so many games for that. Someone needs to get on making that hardware real.

That's a very good point. I guess we need a version type? Or something.

That looks like an annoying problem. Really need a decimal type for that. As an aside has anyone tried making Python object notation? For instance you'd get tuples, sets, complex, hex, etc. along with dicts, lists, and all the other st

Luckily AI art will most likely be in the public domain so artists will probably always be involved but you'll become some editing cog in a machine trying to change a piece of ai art enough that it becomes copyrightable.

Yes. Truth be told for any engine you'll be more limited by the size of your art team then anything else.

It's not as monolithic as you'd think. There are lots of engines out there but their communities aren't very vocal compared to Unity, Unreal, and especially Godot's community. Take a look at: https://itch.io&#

Technically it's from around 1993 so it's even older! There's a decently size community around it gets about 20,000 downloads a month which isn't that bad. Reactor3D looks pretty cool!

I do agree that new platforms and tools are important and I wasn't clear enough that I don't think that everyone needs to make their own tools and platforms but more of them is good. So I agree not everyone should reinvent the whe

I'm going to guess that it was an attempt to address some fans critism that their newer games were too "hand holding" compared to their older titles. Not saying it was a good design decision but that may have been the thought

The engine is the medium gamedevs work in so it does highly effect the types of games they even think about designing. For instance the kinds of games made in RPG Maker vs Threejs vs Unity vs Pico-8. So by having more engines we'd get
