There was a third team from WebTV, that was based around the team that designed the 3DO M2. That team lost the original Xbox internal design contest, but went on to design the 360 and later Xbox consoles. The Dreamcast WinCE project did con

From reading the two press releases, Perlmutter is 3.5 Exaflops vs Google TPUv4 at 1 Exaflop. Who knows how that compares in real life on real problems.

I was told that Jazelle was not popular because it was complicated/expensive to license and slower than JITing. (Basically Jazelle was a hardware interpreter for a subset of Java byte code.)

The Microsoft contractors double-dipped. They got higher-than-employee wages during their contracts, and later got all the stock options they gave up by being contractors. Nice work if you can get it.

This is all due to Microsoft contractors (who were treated like regular employees in the 80s and 90s) winning a lawsuit that retroactively forced Microsoft to give them a ton of stock. Companies now have to be rude to contractors to avoid a

TvOS is 90% the same as iOS, and has almost no viable application market besides video streaming apps. Unfortunately that means there are almost no docs or classes on programming it. The occasional WWDC presentation is all there is.

Apple is a member of the MPEG-LA patent pool, and receives a cut of the H.265 royalties. They support AV-1 only reluctantly, likely due to pressure from content providers like Netflix and YouTube.
