I'm glad you learned PHP, but frankly I don't see how this site actually adds value. If someone likes your video, a simple call-to-action (preroll?) or a page element loading with a tweet box seems like it'd be more effective than an ultima

I think Scribblenauts + adventure game storylines would actually resurrect the genre in an amazing way. Imagine a harry potter style game where you can create anything to solve simple puzzles. Would be amazing.

So what do we do? Obviously this sucks, but how do we build a company and get investors liquidity without Sarbanes-Oxley-riddled IPOs or Yahoo-level-incompetent acquisitions? Do we just keep being regular companies? Is there an alternative?

I think people that say that might have a ton of potential offers, and work at startups that, thanks to the "talent shortage", are forced to be awesome places to work. I can vouch that Justin.TV and Castfire, both places which are SF based,

I'm curious if anyone in the HN community has messed with this, or sees a ton of potential. My first take is "eww browser plugins v2.0" but I'm not certain that's an informed opinion.

Sources? I'd never heard that before. Would love to read more, and a cursory google search doesn't reveal much.

We were just talking about implementing something extremely similar for my company. So great to see Node's progress make everyone's lives better.

Yeah, I had been semi-ok with it till now. Now, I realize a lot of these companies really can't make the 30% work. I wonder if they could just make it as a "consumption only" device... like don't have a link to get a new customer, only allo

Imagine if the PC revolution had unfolded this way. It's pretty crazy to think about. Essentially, Apple is acting as the big box retailer, but without any other big box retailers, they set their margins and the software vendor just has to

For the record, I'm not a programmer. I agree. That was the sentiment I was trying to express. I can create useful products that are a step past trivial, but not engineering masterpieces.

Yeah, I've become acutely aware that I'm a product guy. I don't dream in algorithms. Scripting is really good for me, but CS is something I don't like. Scripting solves a problem for me the same way a camera solves a problem for a photograp

I think the author didn't think this through all the way. WebOS needs to have 99% of videos, but needs "The ability to play Divx/xviD AVI video of the kind shared on the Internet"? Sorry, I don't buy that at all. It NEEDS to play H.264 and

For the record, David and I have hung out a few times (not like we're BFFs or anything) but I think really highly of the guy and his character. I'd say he's a visionary and nice guy. I don't think he's trying to be Steve Jobs.
