Def some quirks back in the day (I think FF on Linux still doesn't even listen to the wmode param, iirc) but I think modern browsers deal with wmode better now.

For the record, Flash will respect z-index if you set the wmode param. http://www.communitymx.com/content/article.cfm?cid=e5141

Work here. By far the most knowledge I've gained in my career was while I was at JTV. Oh yeah, and ZeroCater'ed free lunch isn't half bad either. :)

The only case where I can think of an example of this might be Photoshop or design software. I think many-a cash-strapped-highschooler pirates Photoshop, then picks up some good design skills, and in turn forces his/her professional workpla

I wonder how "Do Not Track" will effect advertising biz models. Part of the allure of online is that you can not only verify that each ad was served (something impossible to prove pre-internet) but you're also able to target really well. I

Looks like we'll have some data to back up these assumptions. That's all they've been in the past. Who says entertainment and quality have to be mutually exclusive? I don't. I think the counterpoint to this is what got us in this situation

There is some hope. While I can't provide huge amounts of detail, some TV stations are seeing the writing on the wall. I've spoken with one in particular who realizes that a) NBC/CBS/ABC is going to become a cable / internet network at some

Converting: BLECH. Converting a two hour HD movie sucks for both time and storage. XBMC can play back pretty much any format natively. Huge time savings for people with a large video library.

I think this is why corporations worried about "stealing" will still opt for Flash encrypted delivery vs HTML5-ey "friendly" delivery. Any good player framework will likely account for this, hopefully by allowing all the same DOM-ey calls t

I appreciate the post, but in the end it just isn't that useful. It's like "I did all this stuff to sell MacBooks and didn't really make any money, so I started this startup." Obviously you can't do it for long if you're not making coin, bu

For me, it was really about speed. I used Wordpress because I could learn it quickly and I had a modified blog (my goal) as quickly as possible. I didn't have to worry about learning how to connect to a DB, etc. Today, I actually hate Wordp

The way I became a journeyman PHP-er was to mess around with Wordpress. There are enough resources out there that Wordpress will give you the basic knowledge. That's not to say it's good or talented knowledge, but it's basic knowledge. (Peo

I think working with one "no hope" startup is good. I've worked with exactly one, and that's what I expect to leave it at. I've also worked with four "has hope" startups (aka I take some cash) and the lessons there are huge. The startups yo
