Network effects. :) I'm not going to swap stripe for balanced at this point, but would happily offer customers the ability to pay with a bank account if they prefer.

Love it. Awesome for Ray to get some extra support in the form of a CTO.

I'm most interested in the inverse... allowing customers to send us cash directly from their bank accounts for $.25 per transfer (instead of the bullshit credit card company fees). I'm sure there's some serious fraud implications that Strip

I've been having an awesome time with Heap for the web. Their response time is fantastic for user feedback too. Glad they exist.

PG commented on it forever ago. The thinking (if I can speculate) probably is that if an item was submitted that didn't make it to the homepage, but it gets resubmitted a year later and does make it, it's worth everyone seeing it again. Or,

Actually, there's some number of items that are new enough that they're dupes, but after a certain period, they can be resubmitted.

Anyone know how to make DNS redundant? Is it as simple as adding them as extra nameservers, and then copying all the records? I'm thinking about using Linode's DNS as a failover.

I love the idea of this for prototyping, but what happens after you're done prototyping? Do they expect you to just use their backend forever? I feel like most folks outgrow a service like this at some point... is that ok with you, Cole? Or

I think he's saying the OP is being contradictory. "I don't mean to boast, but I'm awesome" would be a similar statement. Trying to defeat criticism by deflecting the critique at the root, while actually fulfilling said critique is a common

For the record, ICQ's issue was needless complexity. Lots of extra clicks for no good reason. Nobody hated it, but pressing "enter" on msn messenger meant more words per minute, and for us teens at the time, it seemed more fun.

This makes me think Angular 2.0 hopefully will trim some of the conceptual cruft in a few years. Interesting! Thanks for the insight.

But it's not like it's some "real" CNN writeup. It's Dan, and it's Fortune. Dan is currently my favorite inside baseballer in VC-land. He actually knows his beat really well. Apparently Fortune (TW owned) eschewed its own domain (much like

No Boo.com reference? [1] The OP has a lot of knowledge about the dot-com bust, and is a smart dude. It's unsurprising he sees it through this lens, though I don't quite see it the same way. Marissa Mayer has a better sense for product (fro

To be clear, the bad guys are not the startup founders. They're the old school VCs and lawyers spoken of, who are used to taking advantage of startup founders. YC is a force for good in that without doing anything, bad actors are weeded out

This is why you work with YC. If you're going to get into the SV ecosystem, in order to stay away from the bad actors, I think you have to align yourselves with the forces for good. You think anyone will fuck with a YC company like that? On
