Slight correction - pre Mac OSX you could only resize from the bottom right, but you could move a window by dragging from the border on any edge (the idea being that windows were equivalent to pieces of paper, so people would rather move th

I'm slightly obsessed with scrobbling and checking what I've been listening to over the last [N] months. And last.fm recommendations beat every other service I've come across. But in terms of actual listening; I barely use it.

I'd love to know a bit more about what your contract looks like. I've had real problems with getting clients to agree to pay 50% upfront in case I vanish (I'm quite happy to admit mine is a tiny, 3 person, company) and I'm guessing you mus

I don't know much about Grooveshark (or Rdio) but one of the early selling points of Spotify is that it uses P2P - the first minute or so of a song is streamed from their servers but the rest is P2Ped from other users. Which means you very

Years ago my employer released a new version of their desktop app. Occasionally, under certain versions of Windows, it would complain and show a dialogue box during the installation process. We needed to hit a release date (yes, it was our

In the UK they've been running an ad about BBM - getting your friends together, meeting people in a nightclub etc. When I first saw it I thought "about time, that's what they need to do - capitalise on the fact that BBM is selling phones to

The thing is, in many ways, the iPhone is a toy compared to Blackberries. Which is exactly why people want iPhones - same facts, entirely opposite conclusion. Stuff like this makes me think of the dolphins in the Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the

Well one thing i definitely do remember about Microsoft at that time was their "white papers" that were little more than made-up visions of a utopian future (which when implemented fell a long way short). My favourite (from a bit earlier -

As I remember it (and it is a long time ago), one of the key promises of Longhorn was it was to make .Net a peer of Win32. At the time (Win2K, WinXP time) there were a few ways to write apps that ran on Windows - Win32 was the preferred way

I suspect a major problem with ORMs is that a number of people are using them without a full knowledge of SQL beforehand. Relational databases are complex and you need to understand what's going on if you want to make best use of them. I'v
