Off-topic - but doesn't that confuse you? I gave up on desktop linux - partly because I don't like Gnome 3 or Unity (Gnome 2 was good though) but also because my fingers are so used to Cmd-S, Cmd-T etc. I tried mapping Ctrl to the Cmd key

For me, I talk to my children all the time, so they know the standards I expect and I know if something's bothering them. If they do want to look at something I disapprove of, they can and will, so I don't try to stop them directly - as th

In the Apple ecosystem, you need a commitment to good design. It's less strong than it used to be (for example read John Siracusa and early Gruber criticising Apple's design choices with in OSX or Pierre Igot taking every app he comes acro

That's a bit unfair. The OP uses the word "we" implying some sort of team decision. And asks for references, implying this is still under research.

For me, it's because it's a Mac app. I've paid for Sublime Text and it does the job (and is my preferred editor on Linux), but, for me at least, it doesn't "fit" on a Mac as well as Coda. And I can't really tell you why that is.

There were many rumours of forthcoming iOS/Facebook integration a while back - but then it all went silent. I guess they couldn't agree legals, but all we have is speculation.

My friend worked for a big bank for nearly ten years in Obj-C (using NeXTStep and OpenStep) - and quit when they moved to Java a couple of years ago.

It's going back a while but I believe it was the graphical nature of Macs, coupled with the LaserWriter printer that made DTP important for Macs. Which in turn prompted the use of Postscript in NeXTstep.

And the reason for that is because NeXT used PostScript for rendering - use the same language for displaying on-screen as on paper. When NeXTStep became OSX PDF was used instead (I believe because of a bust up between Steve Jobs and Adobe o

Well the sports car in question is a one-off custom-build, purely for him, and rumoured to have cost a few millions of dollars. Not quite a private jet, but I would put that into "filthy rich" UPDATE: Link - http://www.luxist.com/2010/09/

Asking upfront is also a problem. Asking on demand is much more annoying to the user, but also makes them think about what the app is asking for - as opposed to a list of permissions at install time, which are skimmed over and then forgott

Heh - take your database, stick a webservice in front of it (request: "is this address valid?" response: "probably" or "they may have meant X") and charge a (small) subscription fee. I'm sure that there are a lot of people who would find th

Also, at least at the moment, Apple's profit model is easy to understand - you pay money, receive something in return and they pocket the profit. Google's model is based upon understanding who you are so they can place the best adverts in

Microsoft during the late 80s and 90s was famous for its ruthlessness and the way it exploited and crushed its competition. I wouldn't say "Jobs is the nasty one and Gates is the nice one"
