Or more likely, the corps realize that the walkouts are an ineffective form of virtue signaling and it would be a PR nightmare to do anything about them, so might as well let them happen since they really mean very little.

This is just not how employment works, really anywhere in the world. The company is well within it's right to ask you to leave earlier to protect it's IP.

Unfortunately, it's clearly more complex than that. To be fair, it seems that she has made it about that to an extent and media ran with it. We haven't heard from google or her superiors. It's clear they didn't agree but

As much as I support employment rights, you are paid by a company to do their bidding. If you don't like it start a company, but then you're just doing the bidding of the customer.

This is par for the course at most companies with IP to protect. If you quit they just walk you out.

Does that mean generally speaking everyone is getting paid similarly? I wonder how pay plays into the feeling of superiority might have.

Agreed on most of what you said. DS doesn't necessarily need a lot of data. Alot of DS work is not much more than visualizations and report generation to find insights. ML might need a lot of data depending on how your org defines it.

Great, if we will take software engineers to task over their ethics, let's form a professional regulatory body that licenses them and a union or advocacy org while we are at it. Tech companies have benefited tremendously from the way t

Because you can hire someone without a masters degree for much less, and they have the skills to do the job. By putting over qualified people in roles that don't use their skills, you have done no one any favors.

Banks have moats. It's really hard to get past these moats. They are so central to the way that the financial system works, that it's really hard to "disrupt" them. Even the tech giants likely wouldn't succeed.
