This might confuse a reader. The Object === cases are successful, because the Class-objects Integer and String are Objects. In ruby everything is an Object.

This is what happens: "3.9e3".to_i => 3 and Integer("3.9e3") raises "invalid value for Integer()". Really, nothing to see here. Ruby just doesn't treat "3.9e3" as a valid string for an integer

It is also not strictly "capital" requirement. You can bring in non-capital value (like buildings, machines, etc.) into the company, but AFAIK this is much harder and hardly worth the extra hassle.

You might want to look at a unique partial index: "CREATE UNIQUE INDEX foo ON users(facebook_id) WHERE facebook_id IS NOT NULL". I am not sure if this really is a great modelling. If a user happens to have two logins in your table

You could run this in a single query `count(*) .. group by (tag, category_id)` and then post process the results. counting by groups is still relatively expensive though in postgres; I built an implementation which uses estimate counting (v

I really don't get the confusion around JOINs... Any JOIN is what the author is calling a "CROSS JOIN", with "ON" (which is optional) basically being a WHERE condition, and "LEFT", "RIGHT", "
