Waymo self driving is not at all the same as Tesla’s. One is fully driverless and the other requires driver monitoring.

> Eight years really isn’t that long when it comes to solving hard problems. I agree. But it seems Tesla and Musk don’t. Because Musk said in 2016 that autonomy is a “solved problem” and has been saying every year that they will have FSD

You can’t be “wildly over optimistic” for 8 years in a row. That’s just called lying and deliberately misleading, especially when financial upside is involved.

They had similar statements when CarPlay was first announced. It took years for OEMs to support it. Maybe it will be different this time.

Given CarPlay history, either very few OEMs will actually adopt this or it's going to take a long time for your favorite car to get it. Sadly, no one wants to give up control to Apple and Google.

Euro NCAP doesn’t assess FSD safety, which was the reason they discontinued radar. If they’ve now decided they need radar, it means they lied in their blog post. They wouldn’t need it again if they thought it was safe without one. They sure

No moving of goalposts. “Sufficient” means you need to demonstrate L4+ self driving with no driver. You’ve shown L2 driver assistance. By your definition, any car doing basic cruise control is self driving.

Wrong analogy. Not many would buy an iPhone if Apple removes the main camera and claims they can magically take pictures from the front camera alone, but reveals they will have a better main camera for next year’s model.

It has to be capable of doing it thousands of times to be considered safe enough to remove the driver. Just one drive without disengagement doesn't count. FSD is not repeatable currently, so it's not close L4 self driving. For ref

It’s perfectly scalable and it’s a solved problem. Maps aren’t the bottleneck in scaling. The cars don’t even require an always up-to-date map to work safely (but they are self mapping anyway). I’m not sure how long Karpathy will push this
