But the delay is specifically so you can internalise the fact that downvoting here is a stronger claim than on, say, reddit.

This isn't premature... the algorithm and performance are understood. That said, I agree that it's not always the best use of time.

But by Sanderson's First Law, if it were in an appendix he wouldn't be able to use consequences of the rules in the story. Imagine I Robot if the laws of robotics were an optional appendix (although not quite that extreme). FWIW,

I think Shallan also isn't as clever as she thinks she is, in-universe. That makes it somewhat more palatable to me.

For what it's worth, I would definitely rather work under Linus than at Google. Google seems, from speaking to people who work there, thoroughly unpleasant.

It's not hard to make it work, but for those of us at work it's nice to have a warning that we shouldn't just blindly click it. That said, I wouldn't visit jwz's blog at work anyway.

Hey cmdrtaco. This isn't entirely related, but I just wanted to say thanks for the chili recipe from your blog. I've been using it for years and it's great. (I also miss the Slashdot that was).

I don't really know what to tell you, there. Are you generally familiar with the C build process, and bash? The only "unusual" things I'm seeing there are the $@ (target) and $^ (dependencies) automatic variables, the wi

Maybe they've improved it since I last used it (was two or three years ago now). But you say reinstalled? Is it possible it only reinstalled the VS-proper components and not all of the dependencies that the first-time install pulls in?

Personally I get grumpy when modern IDEs make me wait on them . I don't care that much about CPU/RAM usage until the computer starts wasting my time while I'm trying to work. That's sadly very common these days even o
