Well, Tarsnap[0] also exists, although granted Dropbox is more popular so I guess won in that sense. I think they have a slightly different target audience anyway. [0]: https://www.tarsnap.com/

Fair enough. I would definitely agree that there's a difference depending on what portion of the group has the behaviour in question. Thanks for clarifying.

Is there some source for these percentages or are the numbers generated purely from a sense of "I like this group" vs "I don't like that group"?

Are you thinking of Liar![0]? Looking it up on the Wikipedia, the See Also section includes a reference to HAL. [0]: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liar!_(short_story)

You'll probably get yelled at to fix your font config if you report it, though. They're pretty big on "This is not #support. Post patch or GTFO" last I was there.

Given the rephrasing was done to avoid the question of "should we use 'who' or 'whom' here?", I think it's fair to point out that the new phrasing suffers from the same problem.

The stereotypes about hackers having learned computers instead of (or due to a lack of) social skills aren't created entirely of whole cloth. I'm personally more surprised that there are people on Hacker News who are surprised by

See, I can see why you'd put it in git (because it's easy) but not sure why you'd upload it to the cloud (ie github).

That all depends on how you define "choice", surely.

As long as it needs to be intentional, I could maybe see it. I imagine it'd be difficult to prove intent, though. "Manipulative representation of facts" is tricky, because every representation aside from raw data has been m

My guess is this would be covered by the "have you initialised the variable" check, similarly to: int i; if (x == 3) { i = 2; } WriteLine(i); I'd be interested to hear the answer, though.

Have you factored in that you need to serve the comments to every user, not just ones that comment? I mean, to be fair, you could probably serve staticish chunks of HTML and update-on-new-comment, but it's a consideration.

Been a while, may not be entirely correct: Slashdot's model was perhaps a little overcomplicated, but my favourite feature was the ability to tag up/down votes with flavours. +1 Informative was different to +1 Funny, and "Fac

I don't think the world gets worse by finding out that someone has a bad life. The bad things would exist whether you learned about them or not. I think knowing about other, bad lives can remind people of all the things they have and t

I assume at least part of it is that "zero-cost abstractions" is a fairly objective and boolean metric to calculate. "Is this performance impact significant enough to worry about?" would probably result in a lot more bik

I like it for distinguishing homonym operators, but not for the precedence stuff they seem to have there. I'd like something like this though: let a = 10; a / 5 output> 2 let b = pwd(); b/temp output> Dire

For what it's worth, I find a lot of older games I try to run on Win 10 crash, or don't work 100%. KOTOR, for instance. So while I can get a lot to work more or less flawlessly, that's more-or-less a tie with wine.

"dynamic contrast" is the worst. That said, it looks like this works the opposite way -- it dims the backlight for mostly-white content, and boosts it for mostly-black. The fading could still be annoying, but at least it won'

What I'm getting from this is that you'd prefer people not be xenophobic. I assume from that that you are not xenophobic, since we tend to prefer people like ourselves. :)

Sure, but "combats depression" is probably a broad enough effect that they wouldn't necessarily be the SAME state in this case either, right? They could both treat depression in different ways.
