The design really looks great. We're always looking for good designers to work with, but not being a designer myself, I'm not a member of forrst. Are you a member, or did you browse the work posted and contact someone directly? Would love t

That's a great point, bigian. FWIW that's not a PayPal-specific policy - Visa and MasterCard's TOS explicitly state that you cannot bill the credit card until the merchandise has shipped.

MailChimp are very diligent about spam. If your emails get reported as spam more than %0.5 of the time you'll be banned. So "Unlimited" has a built in limit. (We use/love MailChimp, definitely recommended.)

I've been wondering this, so here goes. By accepting this money, is YC basically saying that $10-20k isn't enough to startup? Or at least that having the next $150k promised is beneficial to startups in general? If that's true, why doesn't

I'd love to sponsor tutoring for someone who can't afford it. Maybe that's a feature you could add later? Great job!

In a way, I think that's sort of the point: that some people won't like it, for the reasons you mentioned. It gives the sense that real people run the company. A megacorp would never send that email.

I've used this on at least 10 production sites, for years. It works great . The Filament Group blog is filled with gems like this, highly recommended reading. FWIW, Filament Group contribute heavily to jqUI, and developed Themeroller.

Its like we're playing a game of Taboo[1] in which I have to describe this set of technologies and I can't say HTML5. Only its no fun. Sarcasm aside, if HTML = HTML5, how is one to describe this? "HTML5" wasn't perfect, but its a helluva lo

FWIW, I just bought the giant cow beanbag[1] for my seven year old niece. She loves it (sleeps with it, carries it room to room with her). [1] http://www.squishable.com/pc/giant_beanbag_cow/Squishable_Wa...

Totally, but there's also a good chance the interview went like this: Reporter: "So knowing what Facebook has become now, would you have stuck with it?" Founders: "Of course!" (laughter) Article: "The founders say that they would have kept

Nit: AdSense is profitable, but AdWords is even more profitable. If I'm reading it correctly, AdWords brought in 67% of their 2010 ad revenue vs. 30% for AdSense: http://investor.google.com/financial/tables.html

That's fine, but plenty of atheists/agnostics/other non-Christian folk celebrate Christmas (at least in the gift buying sense, which is what you care about). So for people who do celebrate Christmas, regardless of religion, of course the mo

One problem: you did this test on Dec 21, well after Hanukkah had passed (it was December 1-9 this year). So for a big portion of the folks who are supposed to appreciate your PC-ness you missed the holiday by almost a month. Hardly surpris

I wonder if what we have is mediocre execution of a bad plan to grab a good market? That sounds spot on to me. But that's the game MS plays - they throw money at problems for years until they get it right. I'm not saying its the best stra

That's absolutely what got me into programming. As silly as "progs" were, it catalyzed me to learn the Windows API, how to find and share code online, and how to build my first website (for the purpose of sharing my AOL code). It even gave

I don't follow the XBOX numbers closely either, but as I understand it, it is profitable and growing. [1] Regardless, what's more interesting to me is that ten years ago I would have said "what the hell does MS want to make a game console f

It also took them 10 years of hemorrhaging money to get Xbox/XBL right. Many people also thought they were stupid for doing so, but now it seems prescient.

One thing I never understood: My family has had an AOL account since v2.5 (1995?), but the discs never stopped coming. Always seemed like an obvious waste of money, with a trivial fix.

Pretty sure you're right. So following on what you said, if someone views the index page of a posterous blog that would count as a view of all 10 posts listed. Quite a strange methodology. I wouldn't call it dishonest, but its certainly uno

Housing first is a wonderful program. My stepmother has been running a similar pilot program in Greensboro, NC [1]. The thesis, which is holding up, is that the total cost to taxpayers is lower if the city pays the rent vs. emergency room v

Have you had good luck with Unbounce? I love it in theory, but the interface is kind of janky - specifically, I have lots of trouble with alignment, positioning, and lack of an Undo button.

A DDoS is nothing like a sit in. Its more like forming a human chain around the restaurant. The crux of civil disobedience is that moral men have a duty to break unjust laws. This is not civil disobedience.
