The founders are already going to be super-rich. This isn't Twitter, Groupon is already profitable and raking in the dough. That gives them the freedom to ride this thing out and see where it goes. Truckloads of money are great, but this is

Beautiful building, had lunch with a friend there. IIRC it also housed DoubleClick before the merger, so "moving in" was a matter of Google taking over their floor(s).

Not mentioned here, but "RIM said Kik Chief Executive Ted Livingston worked on product strategy for its BlackBerry Messenger." http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142405274870459480457564... Not a minor point.

I'll bite. I write CakePHP apps for my clients, and I've heard this "cake is slow" meme before. Never been a problem for us, and we've shipped a lot of apps. In almost all cases, the benchmark was done with no caching. I don't know who laun

He's referring to NetFlix being a customer of Level3, not the end user being a customer of Comcast. NetFlix uses enough bandwidth that they'd have direct deals with Tier 1 providers like Level3.

Living Social is the only one I've seen that has the offer volume of Groupon (always a good offer, every day). I think that's the key. I've done some modest research here, and it seems like the surest sign that one is going to die is when t

If Mr. Borker is threatening and defrauding his customers, as he clearly seems to be doing, this is a matter for the authorities. They should have no trouble shutting down his business and website. The SEO aspect is interesting, but rel="no

That's the same threat the TSA agents make. Don't assert your rights or it'll be a huge pain in the ass. Civil disobedience is not for the meek.

I think he means both Google and their customers. Google should get it, in that they need to offer support if they want to run this kind of business. But customers should also know that Google doesn't do support, and they will need support,

Good catch Max. I'd initially assumed it was $17 one-time from the headline, but given that the normal cost of this plan is $150/month $17/month seems more likely. Noah's on HN though, perhaps he can clarify?

MySpace is not what it used to be, but I still don't think its dead. Facebook has eclipsed it as the mainstream social networking site but there are still things MySpace does better. Notably, you just can't do as much with your profile on F

There is no mention of metabolism anywhere in this article. Not sure where you got that. 3rd sentence: "Dieters have been encouraged to employ this trick for ages, with the reasoning quite simple: the water fills the stomach, thus reducing

I think your first instinct was right. The Post-It logos made me think its officially related to 3M, but upon closer inspection I don't think it is. I expect those logos or the entire website will be gone shortly.

Accessibility, SEO, and maintainability are the business reasons. But the larger reason, the why , is that its easier for a computer to parse. If you want to be part of the Semantic Web[1], you should make your pages as machine-readable as

Given that email is already free, and spammers can register free email accounts, is that really any authentication? I expect they'll just drop the requirement, and offer you an @facebook.com email during signup.

Highlighter.com looks pretty cool actually, and that's a great domain. The description they gave it is terrible though - its a new kind of commenting system for bloggers, not a way to collect things you find online.

Absolutely, and I didn't mean to imply otherwise. But Dvorak seems particularly quick to call tech companies stupid, and I wonder if that's a result of not having been in the trenches himself.

John Dvorak seems to have an unlimited supply of complaints, and rarely anything constructive to say. Wikipedia suggests he's never built anything of his own. Always a bridesmaid, never a bride. Perhaps that's part of it?

Its awkward, but it means "everything after this rule is !important." So you are parsing it correctly, its just a weird context. But now that you've mentioned it, @important would be a lot more intuitive.

Regarding 'Outlining CSS', there's also a risk of breaking sites that depend on the specificity rules of CSS[1]. I think this should be added to the risks list for this filter[2]. Does anyone know how to ping Google about such things? [1]

Job boards and craigslist suck just as much for employers as employees. Because the cost of applying is 0, people send their resume to every single job they can find. Its a chore to separate the wheat from the overwhelming amount of chaff.
