One of the big differences to IT, as I see it, is to do with repairs/support. In IT, a subscription covers repairs/bugs. So what you are paying for is basically maintenance. If we transfer that to cars, then the subscription shoul

Is it perfect because you deep down think it is perfect? Or is it perfect because everyone else tells you it is? Your list sounds like a greatest hit of things people on HN, at dinner parties or elsewhere would comment as being dream scenar

That could be it. I just wanted to praise the parent as it was a very clever and funny comment, which to me deserved more than "just" an upvote. But thanks for pointing out.

There is an interesting connection between downvoting a comment praising an observation about caricaturical behavior and the personality said comment is meant to highlight.

Fujifilm - as you mention others have said. The standard Acros film simulation is incredible right out of the box. It even varies grain depending on exposure etc. to mimic real film. On top of that, there are tons of film simulation "r

I moved from Dropbox to Nextcloud hosted on a Hetzner server years ago. Haven't looked back since.

Looking through the episodes it looks like "generic pop-science" health advice, like what you find on Tim Ferriss or Joe Rogan. Does he have something substantial to bring to the table and am I missing something by writing him off

Thanks a lot for the thread. If there was a link to a PDF/docx document, then it seems to have been deleted. I am unable to find it at least.

Every once in a while I must succumb my natural aversion towards marketers and give a tip of the hat. This is definitely one of them. Absolutely brilliant and creative thinking!

Unfortunately this is probably the most likely scenario. And in turn also the hardest to handle.

Now that explains it. I was just looking at the stats from my WordPress site and found traffic from a indieblog.page - I thought it was some shady marketing page and ignored it. Here 10 minutes later I am on HN and see this. Great idea and

I have the exact same experience. I want to spend time on the platform and I can find videos that I like and would have loved for the algorithm to find for me, but I really have to search very thoroughly for them myself.

That's interesting and perhaps I should not be that surprised. If it did not work at all, then they would probably have changed it. Their KPI is probably ad revenue, but still if it worked for no one, then I would expect their revenue

I hope your analysis is correct. On a personal level I have found it to work just as you describe, but on a more systemic higher level I am not yet convinced - I hope - but I am sadly not convinced.

Another little note is that Fastmail also allows you to mark all emails for a specific alias as "read". I personally have a newsletters@example.com, buys@example.com and signups@example.com all automatically marked as read.
