I have the exact same problem. Never been good at telling stories. I have two recommendations for books: - Story Craft - Jack Hart - Story: Substance, Structure, Style - Robert McKee The first one focuses on non-fiction the other on fiction

Absolutely. Have done and will do in the future. Rejected jobs from surveillance-companies, ad-tech companies etc. But I do not try to put myself on a higher moral horse than people who would take those jobs. I can say no because I have two

It took a good 3-4 months for me find any remote joy in getting back to work. I was lucky not to be in a financial situation where I needed to work, so I could take some months off early without any real consequence.

Sounds like you are overthinking and/or over engineering it. Unless CI or deploy/rollback functionality IS your product then it does not matter. Until you have got traction for your actual product then deployments can have 100 man
