I wasn’t counting anyone out, but Kazakhstan is comprised mostly of Kazakhs.

I think it’s important to note that Kazakhstan wasn’t just strongarmed into this. Public sentiment was very much against nuclear weapons in Kazakhstan in 1991. The Semipalatinsk test site ruined the health of so many Kazakhs, that there was

Low quality article aside, Threads also had a major spike in usage that quickly dropped off. I could be wrong, but I’m going to guess Bluesky will be the same. They don’t seem to offer anything new/different other than moderation, whic

I don’t work in tech. Is this something that engineers could respond to and reallocate resources to fix mid stream?

This is not new. Average dentist is going $300k in debt for school these days. The average dentist salary isn’t that impressive considering the education cost, so many quickly feel the pressure to sell expensive treatments once they start p

LiPos used today burn because they have vent slits. Remove the vents and it’s far more likely to explode. In any case, we’ll probably find out in a couple weeks.

Most pagers also aren’t designed incinerate/explode when they receive a signal, so I don’t know if we can make assumptions based on what typical pagers do. Seems a lot easier to short a LiPo battery than conceal a tiny explosive. An ex

Agreed. It’s over in half a day. Ramping up production is a rung on the escalation ladder. It’s generally good to have more rungs.

Hans has always been the guy keeping count. Just about anytime you hear someone cite the US stockpile count, it’s his number. Truly impressive how accurate he is able to be with no special accesses. Only 40 off.

The study i saw this on was a review of data from 200ish US domestic flights. Maybe you were close to a vent, or some other variable im not thinking of, or just an outlier

Totally agree. I’ve always assumed that high CO2 levels and low air pressure must have some effect on drowsiness and cognition Edit: some googling shows that commercial flights can reach 1500 to sometimes 3000 ppm co2. Pressure is around 0.

Nope, I checked his post history. As someone who works in a similar lab, what he’s describing certainly isn’t uncommon.

The purpose of my example was to demonstrate that oppression of women in Iran is a form of political control because it happens under secular and religious regimes, sorry I don’t think I expressed that clearly enough. I don’t consider Iran

And in the early 20th century pahlavi’s regime beat women who chose to keep wearing the hijab. Religious extremism in the form of salafi Wahhabism isn’t common in the country, nor is militant jihad. It’s theocratic authoritarianism. I think

It’s certainly on the governments radar, and they do have an interest in preventing it. Kazakhstan banned hijab in schools and engages in anti terrorism like you mentioned. But overall, the country has a large secular population (due to the

All of the central Asian “stan” countries have a Muslim majority and Tajikistan is actually the most extreme of them. But Kazakhstan, kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, Turkey and Iran are all examples of islam without extremism (although I

Photons and waves both model electromagnetism. Photons are just the quantization of electromagnetic radiation, where E=hv. This is the whole idea of wave-particle duality. We often describe radio frequencies with waves because they act more

This problem is cute and all, but completely overblown. Just put it in a deep hole. Meanwhile we have waste storage issue right now. In Japan for example, there are many tons of waste sitting in random poorly secured warehouses right now.

I don’t consider it ironic. My opinion is that both fast paced development and careful rigorous development can produce innovation, but often of a different kind. You can have both and they don’t have to negate each other. The development p

Yes. I’d prefer to fly on an airbus, but the total risk is still low considering the incident per flight hour rate of commercial aviation.
