Ads & music. You got off easy! Combine with a bunch of inept presenters that fill in time by raving about tabloid news like it's their religion. It's madness.

Yep. Twitter should have incorporated the concept of user switching to their UI by now. Trying to avoid (US/gender) politics by unfollowing technical leader people has left me with a, let's say, very manageable set of people to fo

Is newsblur close or similar to theoldreader.com? TOR is somewhat faithful clone of google reader but it's very heavy on the JS. Hardly usable on Firefox.\\ I see, it's very usable thanks to the online demo. Might switch to it.

I wonder if those widgets require GTK support in Emacs. I compile a plain X support for my emacs only, because with GTK it doesn't stay up for months without crashing. I had an emacs server with 180 day uptime the other day. Maybe on m

Even Hitler's desires? One has to remember that "a better world" is a very subjective thing.

#emacs on Freenode is great, if one can handle the traffic. Great convos and greatest (IT/CS related) memes.

I have found it generally very uncomfortable because a vast majority of content on the web doesn't scale well vertically. You keep a wide window, you get way too long paragraphs that are hard to read as your eyes jump between the lines

Linux, with a tiling window manager. :-) You could say that it favors strongly both cases: running windows full-screen and also running a 70% window with say two 15% windows. Windows 10, which I use in work, has this annoying habit that if

I run low-distraction windows or even just show the desktop next to my half-a-screen browser.

Understood, I upvoted your message. The different preferences between sites -- and tabs -- is the biggest nuisance for me too, but not too big a nuisance.

The page is very beautiful in its versatility. No fancy JS hacks to keep pages style: you can use Firefox' reader view for instance. I keep my browser windows around 1000x1000 pixels because the vast majority of sites would otherwise s

Or... you know, maybe don't browse stuff with a full-sized browser window? I don't get who is forcing people to make their surfing so uncomfortable.

KaTeX looks very good, but currently I let org-mode do the backend lifting for me. Maybe if I rewrite my blog engine once again... ;-)

One example: in my static blog I provide very nice maths using MathJax, but I also provide fallback PNG renders of the formulae. The small JS my blog has, it reads these pictures' alt texts and renders the latex if found. This stuff is

That would be a reasonable exception. Of course, I'd only give the page a 5/5 rating if the JS code would be still readable even if no output would be produced.

I can read all mentioned pages with NoScript enabled. But fully agreed that static pages such as blogs shouldn't require JS to show the primary content.

The funny thing is that updating the radio on a 20-year old car is cheap, but updating the radio on a 10-year-old can be prohibitely expensive, given the audio systems have been increasinly integrated.

Question that may be obvious for those who have experience on the matter: is OpenBSD for server use a nobrainer? It's not that popular on that section even though everything looks so good, so well suited for serving.

I don't think it's saying exactly that. One should think up a solution first, then see if one needs patterns to fit that solution into the code base in language of choice. PHP certainly doesn't need all of Gang of Four recip
