that's possible with normal reverbs too. reverse reverb is quite a popular creative tool. i've used it on snares to make them suck you in before popping you out

i think the solution for the first issue: label vs placeholder, is to just avoid placeholders that are not labels when using material design. EDIT: for help text, put it below label or a tooltip

this reminds me of an interview i saw on the news with an elderly british voter who was adamant that she will vote Tory as they are bound to win. it's almost like she saw her vote as a bet and she wanted to get it right. this interview
