Last time I checked, the play by play data on espn.com was pretty error-ridden. This was three or so years ago, so it might have changed, and I was hypothetically interested in the score columns, so it may not matter depending on other hyp

Two reasons: 1) Iceland has its own currency, so it has a lot more discretion over its monetary policy. 2) If Greece defaults, investors would assume that Spain, Portugal, etc. will also default. Hence their borrowing costs will almost ce

My understanding is that Greece is different because they don't have their own currency. The real cure for unemployment and low production in Greece is a decrease in real wages, which happens very slowly without higher inflation or a fall

The last time I bought a new car, I used AAA's prenegotiated purchasing service: http://www.aaa.com/AAA_Travel/NewCar/buying_car.htm (this was in california; it doesn't seem to be available everywhere). So I don't have a cool story or an

Wow, that's an off-putting reply. Normally I don't comment on things like that, but you may want to think about coming across a little less.... of an asshole... when you're talking about the company you founded.

Somewhat agree with the author, but I make the big tasks calendar events or put them on their own context list (ie "edit paper" is not on my office list, but my "research" next action list). The idea with GTD is to choose the best next task

The three columns are pretty characteristic of bootstrap, if you're really trying to look different. The site looks good, so don't take that as a suggestion to do anything differently.

"Take no more than 10 ketchup packs" would be a very unusual legal document. I'm not sure that's the most informative analogy.

Maybe. I wouldn't be surprised, though, if the vast majority of users that you described are pretty indifferent about which photo sharing service they use, as long as there are other people they know using it. But the "power users" (I hat

You might feel differently if you were a professional photographer or a celebrity (even a minor local one). I don't use instagram, and I'm not sure if the change would cause me to leave if I did use instagram. But I'm not going to start u

Another thought (as I edit a document that a co-author wrote): if you could mimic tcilatex.tex (which Scientific Workplace throws into any document it touches) in a minimal, nonintrusive way, that would be fantastic. (tcilatex seems to be

I probably can't guess the number of columns in the grid just by looking at the webpage, but tons of landing pages break up their explanation/details into 2 or 3 columns below the header, and (I suspect) that's a direct result of Bootstrap'

I am not a lawyer but... I think that timeliness also comes into play with this sort of copyright. There may be different issues in live updates vs next day results.

That's a little subtle if you don't know to look for it. I'm on a iPhone, though. I don't know if there's a desktop version where it's more obvious.

I'm mostly familiar with macro and finance applications; I'll take your word for it that it's not strictly coming from agent rationality in other subfields. Perhaps I should have said, "unforcastability" which would have covered natural ex

That's not true. I'm not a designer or a developer, but I recognized sites that in retrospect clearly used bootstrap well before I heard about it. The hero bar, buttons for links, and (usually) three explanatory columns are pretty distincti

I've taken just as many stats classes that don't touch data; I don't think either of us want to argue pedagogy of teaching on HN (fuck, I didn't even want to spell it and it's likely I didn't), but I don't think that there's a huge differen

Maybe a moderator could change the link title to highlight that it's from 2008. Not that the date necessarily makes it irrelevant, but it's not really "news".

1. It's Saturday night. 2. It still looks like bootstrap. Telling people, "use bootstrap, but quickly change the fonts and colors and maybe add some images" isn't helpful. I wouldn't mind an article outlining how to use LESS to make boots

I should have been a little more specific; the approach I described assumes that the driver makes some errors, so the speed is not actually constant in practice. That can be because the driver slightly errs in seeing the slope or gas, or b

Since HN is explicitly designed to deter casual visitors [1], it might not be the best example to cite for poor comment design. Threaded's not great, but completely flat comments scale really poorly -- I can't imagine scanning a page with
